Have I waited too long? Or should I still spend the money?

Probably not to late. I think weeds are like spawning bass. Not all of them germinate at the same time. Go for it.

As conventional timing goes. Yes you're late. You want to shoot for first week or so of September. But I'm of the opinion of better late than never. Depending on your sq footage you're not looking at wasting a lot of money. Personally I like Barricade for my fall and spring pre-emergent apps, with the spring app being applied on Feb 15th. Comes in a 5000sq foot bag for $25.00 and free shipping from Solutions Pest and Lawn in Houston. You could order it today and it would probably deliver tomorrow. I would order enough for the spring app and store it so you have it ready. I would put it our as soon as you get it and water it in immediately afterwards. I believe Poa Annua germinates around 70 deg soil temp and Henbit around 75. I don't know what our current soil temps are but probably above that for now. I would get something applied and watered in before this next cool front.

Never, ever, ever use weed and feed or any preemergent mixed with fertilizer. I use isoxaben (Gallery) and prodiamine (Barricade) in the fall and dithiopyr (Lesco) in the spring You can just use prodiamine instead of dithipyr in the fall and spring; but dithiopyr is so widely available, it's easy to just drive to Lowes/HD and get a bag. Sept 1st isoxaben and prodiamine Feb 14th Valentine's day dithiopyr June 1st dithiopyr

This. Derek has some good info. It might be a month late per Neal but it's worth a try. Definitely put out the Feb 15th application. Derek thanks for the info on where to get Barricade. I normally use Halts but will be purchasing some Barricade.

Well I finally got around to putting it out Saturday. Lesco, we will see if it helps at all. But on a positive note, Dallis grass is now totally gone

Make sure you water it in if you didn't.
What did you use to get rid of your Dallis grass?

Good work. Keep up on your pre emergent apps and you should be good. Your February app will be a very important one. Just in case any of the seeds are on the soil they won't be able to germ next spring.

Early February? Are there any good ones to use that are readily available at The Home Depot or Lowe's?

Shoot for Feb 14/15th. You can use the Lesco again. I think most HD's stock Lesco. Lesco's active ingredient is Pendimethalin and Barricades is Prodiomine. Same family. From everything I've read and talked to some commercial guys they say Prodiomine(Barricade) is a superior product. Their main reasons are Pend comes dyed yellow I believe and stains everything bad - Not sure if that's still the case. Pend/Prod both have root pruning properties. But Pend penetrates deeper into the soil where root pruning could become more of an issue and Barricade stays very close to the soil surface. Barricade also stays active much longer than Pend. Fyi. If you were to hire Tru Green to do you pre emergent treatments. They would be applying Barricade.

Uh Oh...My 2 main trees are a Red Oak and a Live Oak. Is this going to hurt them or slow their growth? Red Oak is about 20 years old and the Live Oak is about 14. And yes Lesco was yellow.
