I have come across a great deal on a Pro-drive 18 foot with a mud motor. Trying to figure out a way to justify buying it as second boat. Anyone have any experience with these, would it be too loud for crappie fishing, I would be using it mostly on Ray Roberts, Fork and Lavon. Other than the noise issue, the only thing I will need to do is install a livewell. Thanks in advance.

Absolutely no problems using a mud motor to crappie fish. I use mine on a regular basis for smaller lakes and have never felt handicapped or thought they were too loud...... I catch lots of fish out of mine.

No problems with a mud motor. All the fish in lakes hear outboard motors and boat hulls slapping the water all day/night. If I bought a boat like that...it would also be down on the coast chasing trout/redfish wink

I run a 19' Excel F4 with a GTR 40 XD. Most of all the noise from my rig is from the exhaust above the water. If you're truly worried about it, cut your motor before reaching where you want to fish, and use you TM to get to your spot.

If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

In a world of compromise.....Some don't.

No. I’ve got an HD7000 on a 4 man gator hide that I will use to fish out of when I’m on big wads of spawning crapping. I will take 4-5 people and we will whack em.

No, I don’t have any experience with such a rig...but am willing to figure it out! All you have to do, is send ME the info on that great deal...so I can go buy it and figure out if such a rig should be included in my crappie fishing boat collection, or if I need to sell it to a duck hunter!

Seriously, few people run the big motor while fishing in the stumps, shallow water stuff, where mud boats excell. I think it is an excellent idea, and have considered it myself. It would sure be easier than my current options, in several of the areas I now fish. Besides, if it is a great deal, and it turns out you don’t like it (for some reason I don’t understand) then you can always sell it for enough to get your money back, with just some time involved with your experiment!
