Found some blues! Same place I found the channel catfish last week. Seems the blues ran them channels off. Not a single channel cat caught. I caught 20ish blues in an hour and a half. Basically as fast as I could get the fish off, fix the rigging and rebait and cast...they would bite within seconds. Started off fishing with 3 rods, then down to two then one as the bites were just coming too fast for me to stick em.
Got to the lake before sun-up and had a mixed bag of bait from the ramp. Some threadfins, some gizzards, few bluegills and several small sandies...released those of course.
I mean using a few of the 10 billion 5 inch sandies in the lake would be devastating. Besides, blue cat done like sandies anyways.
They liked the bluegill heads better than most the rest this morning but were hitting it all. I caught my biggest one, about 8lbs, while I was reeling in to check my bait after a violent take down...That got me to thinking. So I started slowly reeling the baits (I was bank fishing) and that really set them on fire.
The cooler weather that rolled in might have been the key. But I am getting this thing figured out one strike at a time!
Kept these for dinner for me and some friends tonight.
