I fished Whitney on Friday for white bass. I found them at a couple of places on the main lake area. I was fishing by myself and I caught at least 50 white bass using slabs and 1/16 oz jigs. The problem is that all but 4 of them were 7-8 inches long. I was even catching these little guys on 3/4 oz slabs. I try to eat fresh fish if possible, so I released the 4 keepers at the end of the day as they weren't enough for a family meal. I assume next year may be a bonus white bass year at Whitney as I've never encountered so many small white bass there.

Not sure why, but Whitney has never had a great sandy bite to me

A 8 inch white should be a perfect size for a big striper meal.

Small whites in a lot of the lakes this year. Next year should be a great sandbass bite if the weather holds out.

I brought my 12 and 11 year old girls out to Whitney Friday. They each caught 30-40 and couldn't have cared less they were short fish! Good times

It's only a good cast if you catch a fish...

On Saturday I caught probably 15 whites and they were all 12-15". Now stripers....out of 25 or so only had 4 legal fish.

The small fish, both whites and stripes will be perfect size next spring. So, leave them and find another lake. I move to another lake and or another spot on same lake if small fish are prevalent. I also purchase slabs with barbless hooks as not to destroy the mouths of those fish of the future !
