Okay I'm new to crappie fishing , but good at catfishing , I know the wind moves the plankton , shad eat plankton and catfish eat the shad.My question is if the wind been blowing 4 or 5 days from the south ,do you start looking for crappie on the north banks? How does the wind affect crappie , i fish from a boat, Just trying to learn how to put more slaps in my boat , thank you for your info

I think crappie are more affected by water temps

I have noticed lately that I catch most of my big fish on wind sheltered piles. That being said, even though they are “sheltered” the fishing I usually best when the wind is absolutely howling.

They seam to feed more aggressively when the wind is up. They also will relate to the windward side to have first crack at what comes by. Unlike catfish, I dont think that they abandoned one side of the lake and travel to the windy side.

Preserving Texas fishing heritage one lure at a time.

Wind is always better than no wind for crappie. They will bite better with it. As for fishing, I tend to stay out of very windy areas because it is hard to fish effectively in those areas.
