I've been running Lowrance HDS 7s Gen2 units on my boat for the past six years and have been very pleased. I am considering upgrading my units and am wondering which units y'all prefer to use while crappie fishing as well as occasionally targeting sand bass. I've been leaning towards the Hummingbird Helix Mega+ but the Garmin Panoptix is intriguing. Not sure about the Lowrance units that are compatible now. Whichever units I get, I will have Slade fine tune them for me. My desire in a unit(s) is to find new underwater brush piles and other structure as well as seeing the fish on the structures and on bridge pylons. I also want to be able to locate the schools of sand bass (hybrid & stripers too). Any thoughts are very much appreciated!

Not even a contest. Go with Garmin. Livescope is incredible.

Humminbird for down and side imaging. Garmin Livescope for targeting.

The new Lowrance Elite Ti2 units can be wirelessly synced so that's pretty cool for sharing waypoints from your console to the trolling motor. I have the 12" Elite Ti2 on my console...and Livescope up front.

One surprise I have found with livescope, I have only had it for a couple of weeks. . With my lowrance on the bow showing I am on the pile , the live scope shows I can be 5 to 10 foot off. I can fine tune my boat position more accurately.
Good luck Mo

I'll chime in...if you've been a Lowrance user for 6 years, it'll be easier to stay with Lowrance and use LiveSight on your trolling motor. While Garmin Panoptics is a bit clearer, to me you'll be fishing faster if you stay with what you're used to using. (Unless you easily pick up electronics usage) I've been in the computer industry for 30 years and don't like having to have a manual on the boat just to do some basic fishing. Electronics that are easy to operate are important to me. I moved from HDS Touch 2 to HDS 9 Live and couldn't be happier (well I guess I could if someone donated a 24 inch Simrad screen to me...lol)

I also have Lowrance HDS gen2 units. They are still dialed in and effective. I've added the LiveScope, and I do quite a bit of tourney fishing as well. Keep what you have and add the Garmin LiveScope. Nothing else is even close, and it will make you a better fisherman in SO many ways! You can just forget everything you "thought" you knew about crappie behavior, and just start over. The LiveScope is truly a game changer.

Its not even close to LiveScope...closer to the original Panoptix.

Thank you for all of y'alls insights and comments! I really enjoyed my Lowrance units but was having my SI/DI unit go bad. So I looked at several different options and decided to go with the Humminbird Helix for the image quality and to try something different. In the future at some point, I would like to upgrade my TM to have "spot locking capabilities" as well as add the Livescope. Would love to have done them all at the same time but that's a lot of money at one time. I'll just have to do it in stages.

What we really need is underwater trail cams that send pictures to your cell phone. That way you could check all of your tops before you ever leave the house. No more wasted time on the water searching for a top loaded with fish.
