Fished Fayette today with doctorxring (aka Chris) from daybreak til 1:00pm. We put our heads together & ended up with 163 fighting bluegill & red ear. I received a lesson on side scan sonar & spot lock trolling motor happiness from Chris. Chris used the BOC (worms) & I used the Gulp Alive 1" minnows all day. While the Gulp Alive significantly out fished the BOC for numbers & big bluegill, the BOC out fished the Gulp Alive for BIG red ear. Chris had 5-7 red ear in the 1 lb range to my one or 2. The water temp was around 87 degrees. We only fished 3 spots today...all 3 had large spawning beds that were covered with fish. After a great day of fishing we had awesome Mexican food at Las Fuentes in downtown La Grange. This was the 1st time either of us had used a counter to get an actual fish count for the day...it surprised us both... [Linked Image]

Totally AWESOME as always. Great job guys. cheers

Side Note: Looks like we might have our first cold front of the season arriving early next week. Forecast is saying Monday. I think these early fronts will really get the fish turned on. What is your take? Also what is your take on the October bite on Fayette? Hopefully the bite keeps on going another month. thumb

Laker & Banker...Every year is different, but here are my results from last year. (2018)

10/1/18 water temp 88...caught 60
10/8/18 water temp 86...caught 40
10/22/18 water temp 71...big cold front with rain dropped temp 15 degrees...caught 4
11/1/18 water temp 73...caught 4

After the 11/1 trip I switched to Dunlap with only a handful of Fayette trips for the rest of the year, and none were good for sunnies...

Wow, Vogey I have the same counter...didn't know it went that high, I'm thrilled when the second number gets to 3. Great fishing and great record keeping.

It was a great trip beginning to end. Steve was definitely the 100 side of the tally ! And it wasn't all because of the bait grin

Here's a few pics from my camera from yesterday -- a lot of the fish still showing great color --

Totally Agree! cheers

Side Note: Thanks Steve for the information! I would think that the fish would move into a little deeper water during the winter. 15 to 20 feet! How ever Fayette being a power plant lake could be a factor in their winter patterns. Keep in mind that the lake is also lowered during the late fall/winter time. This could also play a factor in the bite hmmm

Thanks gar & Bills...a little knowledge about a lake goes a long way.
Banker...I have never really seen the lake lowered all that much & I have fished it a lot over the years. Maybe they do it when its freezing cold...I don't fish then...

The LCRA lowers the lake every year around mid fall. They fill it back to full pool in early spring. thumb

Thanks Vogey. Love keeping stats also on past fishing trips!

They have been doing that a very long time. I heard it is due to yearly maintenance work on the power plant.
