So, did not get my boat ready in time to get out there during the summer, but I expect it should be sea-worthy this next month (October)... but definitely by November. I am planning my "fall/winter/spring and am curious...never really fished much in the latter/beginning part of the year off the coast...always went hunting.. heh

How's fishing later and early in the year? What all do you go for?

I have been on a few tuna runs, when someone else was doing the driving, but never with my own boat.

Anything worth going out there for?

I know, fish are always there, but they can be slow when they are cold.. I sure know I am.. lol

Just trying to see if it is worth taking her out or better to go see the in-laws who are close to rainbow trout

for me, deer season is the best fishing. less traffic and more fish. i can't tell you how many times i've been sitting in a deer stand, looking at the weather and wishing i was fishing.

Now until New Years is the best time to be on the bay.

Eh, my boat is not a great bay boat heh.. albeit it will float in about 2ft of water, pretty heavy, and getting it stuck would not be a fun "adventure", but, probably handle deeper water in the bay alright. I seem to recall some areas in Baffin that would still be fishable.

Wasn't the OP talking about offshore fishing?

Inshore, the fall and winter are outstanding times to go. Less people, more comfortable conditions, plenty of fish to chase.

Texas snapper fishing can be good in winter. Also some ling may still be around into November. We caught some nice kings and jacks on 1/4 of this year at the Baker rig. Just watch the weather very closely, and the good weather opportunities are less in the winter.

I don't think i'd take that boat in Baffin.

both inshore and off shore can be great during the fall, winter, and spring. Fish are there, and it's just a matter of finding where they are. when you find them, they still eat.

Start with bull reds in the nearshore area just outside of jetties and passes. Red snapper and tuna also available.

Yeah the OP's looked like offshore... but that's ok. there's good fishing in both.

Oh, I do not plan to go into Baffin with this boat, too easy to get stuck... hell, did not like my Triton LTS in the bay... too many times getting mud up in it.. heh.

Just saying it will float in 2ft of water, supposedly.. Do not plan to test that theory :P

Barring any issues, plan to start off at the jetties... see if we can get some early morning fishing in.. see how the boat handles at anchor, see how it maneuvers etc, maybe head out to the first 3-rig spot I know of....knew of.. lol (been a while.. rig may be gone)... then, try out a few under 9nm rigs, and, if the weather is nice, maybe head a little further out, see if we can get some ambers maybe blackfin... who knows, but thinking the tuna may need to be early.

Really, this trip is more about me getting used to the boat, seeing how she handles, looking for leaks etc.. lol
