I fish the below Lake's. Can anyone give me a general area to drift or Anchor for a few blues this fall and winter?

Lake Tawakoni
Cedar Creek Lake
Lake Lavon
Ray Roberts.

This will be my first time on my Kayak. Like people say often. Not trying to get secret spots. just want to be able to learn and catch some nice cats.

On Lavon & Roberts I have best luck drifting or anchoring on shallow flats or humps adjacent to river/creek channels. Blues tend to feed shallow, then retreat deep. I have only done this in a boat. This year may be my first year to attempt in a yak.

Bass stay in an area, if you catch one in a particular cove its likley you can catch the same bass in the same cove at a later date. Cats are not the same. They move all over the place. You have to start by finding bait. As a general rule if there is bait there is going to be cats. This is not always the case just generally is. Personally i start looking in creek channels. Drifting first, once i get a bite or two stop and anchor to see if there are more in the area. There are lots of areas on all the area lakes. Ray rob, i like to fish around the south and east side of wolf island, i like an area north of buck creek also, there is also another spot persimmons creek that has been productive. Drifting in these areas will cost you some gear. Lake lewisville, i love to drift from the mouth of the trinity river north of the toll bridge all the way to the old dam, little elm park can produce also. Tawokoni, i only ever fish in the winter but the few times we went in the warm months around sun point has been good. Truth is there are gonna be cats in most areas people fish you just have to figure out if they like bait moving or stationary and off the bottom or on the bottom. Lake lavon, little ridge park also clear lake park has been good. Great luck. We havent fished much the last 2 years so its better someone is catching than us keeping secrets.

Fishing from a kayak often I find it's as hard if not harder to catch good catfish bait than it is to catch the cats themselves. Especially in the winter when the bait goes deep.

Dragging can lose some gear no doubt. Good dragging sinkers prevent a lot of that. Here is a video on building/using dragging sinkers that will help keep you from losing as much gear. In the video description there is a link to buy the step by step instructions on how to build his dragging sinkers (think it costs 10 bucks). Well worth it!

I agree with the bait issue as the water cools, and when bait is hard to find, you can then catch cats using chicken breast for bait. It works on the big blues!

Just one more cast!

Jimbo I've heard about chicken breast and tried it once about a month ago and didn't do any good but that wasn't due to the bait we just weren't where the cats were. I also caught gizzard & thread fin shad and some hand sized drum at the ramp right before we launched and nothing on that bait either. I'm going to give it another shot when I get back to whisker fishing. For now I'm focused on getting to Rockport when I can fish. Reds are biting.

Most of the winter bait can be caught at little elm park by the bouys around the beach area early in the morn. When they move from there go to nw hwy and w. Lawthler. Turn left on lawthler comming from 75 and there is a good bend there that laways holds bait. Go at night as late as you can because a ton of fishermen fish there later less people are there. Bring baggies ice and a cooler. Your gonna need em.

LOL Guys. i am very experienced with drifting from a boat. But the kayak thing is new to me. I agree with the bait thing. But I have used Chicken and caught a bunch of nice fish. But during the winter. I go the the Asian store and can get Carp and herring. it is on then. What I suggest is that a few of us set a date come together and have a little fun.

One other thing, i use old casynet weights as drift weights. Old castnets are all over and the ones with the plastuc covered weights are the easiest. I cut the bottom slide the weights together(2 or 3) and melt the ends so they cant come off. They dont usually get hung up and are almost free.

I no longer use the breast-
I have caught quite a few on the cheaper thighs, I like to get them skin on, it seems to help staying on the hook better-
Also caught flatheads on thighs, they work as another choice-
