I'm new to crappie fishing, what lake is the best to start learning on and start catching crappie?Lake Belton or Stillhouse Hollow lake, I do have a boat with a helix 10 si ,di and 2d , what depth is a good starting place to start scanning for brush piles and sunken tree? thank for your advice and help!

Belton imo, has better fish, but can be fickle. I'd search on the north end in 10-15 fow. Stillhouse has smaller crappie, and can be found anywhere from 5-18 fow.

I personally like Belton. As has been said the North end can be good. The pilons on the Hwy 36 bridge can be good at times but it is hit and miss. The Cowhouse arm is where I spent most of my time back in the 90s and early 2000s. There are some good pieces of timber in that area that usually hold a few fish. Those pieces of timber were in 12 to 20 feet if I'm remembering right.
