Went to a small farm pond this morning. The water level was very low. I had a fluke on a spinning rig with a swivel about 18 inches from the hook. Hooked a fish but line broke. Retied with same rig. About 50 feet from that first hit hooked a bass again. Again, the line broke. (OK, this is ridiculous) About a hour later, using another spinning rig with a fluke tied to it, on the other side of the pond hooked and landed bass. I retrieved my lure and noted there’s a line down its gullet. I gently pulled and out popped my earlier fluke. That’s crazy I thought. But then I noticed another line. Pulled it and here was the other fluke. Bass was very thin. Has some sort of health issue.

Poor dude is starving! I bet you need to take some fish out of that pond and stock it with some bait fish.

That's an old, stunted bass. Too many predators, not enough prey in that pond.

actually more prey than predators in this pond. That fish has plastic in it's gut is my guess because all the rest are very healthy.

I am getting worried about my fishing skills.
In follow-up to the initial story (above) I went back to the farm pond today.
When I got home from the earlier trip, I changed the line to Suffix 12 lb. braid. I put a swivel on it, then a 12 inch leader of 10 lb. Stren monofilament.
While fishing I noticed there were a lot of frogs around the shore. I took my fluke and put it in front of a frog. He latched onto it. It took 4 tries but I finally caught a frog. I put a weedless hook on the “new line” and cast the frog out. It swam on top of the water. After a while I reeled it in a few feet and waited. A bass hit the frog. I opened the bail and let it take line. I set the hook and the line broke at the swivel (AGAIN!). (I never caught another frog.)
Later, I was fishing with a swimmin’ fluke jr. and caught a big bass. While weighing it, I saw my leader and pulled. The frog came out of his gullet about half-way and the hook pulled free of his leg. This had to be a different bass because it looked healthier than the one caught earlier this week.

Thanks for sharing. I caught a big bull frog in the tongue once on a pop R once. I stuck my finger in his mouth to get the hook out and he bit me. They bit hard, worse it made one of the unhooked trebles go up to the barb right under my finger nail.

Frogs really like any fly on top and are an absolute hoot on a fly rod.
Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

Frogs really like any fly on top and are an absolute hoot on a fly rod. That brings back memories. I used to catch frogs all the time with a fly rod, when I was just a kid...about a thousand years ago.

I would start to work on tying better knots or purchasing better line with all these break offs...
