I am looking for a specific carolina rig weight.

It resembles the one in the link below, but is tungsten instead of lead.

I cannot seem to find them anywhere. Anyone know where I could locate some? TIA

Phenix custom makes good slider weights.

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

Do you feel those barrel shaped weights hang up less than a more traditional “worm weight” shaped weight?

Absolutely... I run two big beads behind it and can toss it into rock fields etc, when it does hang up ninety nine percent of the time you can just go to the other side of the hang up and it comes out.

The only issue I have is the tungsten no matter what they say about it being smooth inside is only good for so many casts and retrieves before it will break off. So its a bit of a bummer when you cast it out there and it breaks off and goes flying as the one ounce are 3 bucks plus each...

I use it on 20 lb tatsu now and tie 15 below the swivel. Ive tried braid a few times also and it seems to like the tungsten on it even less.

Ive tried lead and while it wont break off from use it absolutely hangs up much easier and must dig in as I end up breaking that off way way more in rocks. I fish a lot of man made rock reefs in my local lakes.

I use 1oz tungsten barrels from joyfish and use to have the same issues you are describing. The solution is braid to about 2 feet of 20lb mono where your weight will stay. Then 20lb mono to 15 or 17lb flouro below the swivel. This allows a little bit of stretch and I have found that the 20lb mono protects against losing your weight because it is more abrasion resistant compared to braid or fluoro. The tungsten is so hard that if you run flouro through it break offs will occur due to the tungsten smashing the fluoro on the bottom. Braid through 1oz tungsten I have found is no good because the bottom destroys it. Tiny fibers in the braid are being drug through all kinds of grit and other organic material that weakens it quickly. With a 1oz tungsten barrel IMHO it is important to have thick mono at the weight/line interface to protect your entire leader is the bottom line. Really only for Carolina due to so much moving bottom contact.
