What brands does everyone know about that does prescriptions? I know Costa does but my grandfather was quoted $800 for a pair. That seems ridiculous, anyone else have any input on other brands?

I have a pair of ray ban script polarized glasses. They have the anti glare coatings and all that. I am very pleased with them and they cost about $470. My insurance pays $125 for frames and $125 for lenses then I get 20% off the remainder so it was not too bad for me. Lucky for me my script has not changed in 5 years. So I only get new glasses when I break em.
Looked at Maui Jim script glasses. They are as good as Costa's IMO and the frames i looked at with script lenses were under $600
I remember when a pair of script sunglasses were under $100.........

From Costco, I got a pair of Oakley Chamfer 2.0 in bifocal with the best lenses they had for about $375.

I use progressives and my brother is an optometrist so I get them at cost. Still expensive. They were supposed to be polarized but I don't think they are. I can't see into the water very well.

I wanted to get some prescription Oakley Split Shots in the freshwater polarized tint. Got a quote from Oakley and from the optometrist. Both were around $600. Neither were real Oakley lenses.
They said you can't get Rx, polarized AND Oakley lenses. The Rx company just gives you regular grey polarized from their stock.
I'm sure that goes with all Luxottica brands.

With the Costa, full prescription with progressive lens, I was also quoted $800.00. On the Costa website, they list reader sunglasses with the various focal needs at a much more reasonable cost. The type of lens and frame choices in the reader sunglass section is limited, however.

My daughter who has been in the optometry business as regional manager, international sales, marketing, manufacturing etc. Tells me that Maui Jim stands alone at the top of the heap when it comes to polarized prescription lenses. I wear Ray Ban frames with Ziess lenses which are inferior to MJ but are way less pricey.

For my prescription the MJ were $800+ due to no discounting by them. I could get Costa at a deep discount, same with RayBan. Frames are marked up 80%+. MJ are one of the few brands not owned by Luxottica and they produce their own lenses. For what it's worth, I was advised to steer way clear of Oakley.

Or just not tell me also haha. 650-700 I believe then I bought a pair to leave in my boat then the wife had to make the switch from Costa to MJ. They are by far the clearest lens I’ve had, pricey yes but they are worth the money If you want a really good pair of prescription shades.

Check Sams also. Have dark & amber each pair were under $300. Not designer frames but nice.

Over the years I have had 4 or 5 different polarized prescription fishing glasses that I have got from the Walmart vision center. I can usually get some comfortable wrap around frames with upgraded lenses prescription and polarized in the lens color I choose for around 250.00.
