In Mckinney, got a new kayak. Ready to roll. Where's the best spot to launch on the McKinney side of Lavon. A place I can get my bearings, piddle around, get the line wet, and come back.

Appreciate you fellas.

Congrats on the new yak! I'm not familiar with that area but I'm sure folks will chime in soon.

You get out of it what you put into it!

You could try Twin Groves. It is right of 380 on west side of the lake.
With wind coming from the south tomorrow, will also offer you some protection.

I second this option. Good fishing and provides great protection from the wind.

This weekend we went to a Pond in McKinney just to try things out. Learned quickly how important anchoring is. Kayak is an Ascend FS10 sit in. Saturday I went alone had a blast. Sun morning took my 9 year old with me, he sat in front of me. Caught him a bass, all is well.

I suppose I will venture to bigger water as I get more confidence.

After one trip I was ready to buy one of those power poles. Need to explore other options first. What we have now is an old drop an anchor off the side, held on by a string tied beside me.

If this is your first yak and it is a SINK, please be sure you are wearing a PFD. Second, I would highly suggest going out and practicing flipping the yak and re-entry. Many of us fish from a SOT so re-entry is a bit easier. Welcome to the plastic addiction and be safe.
