I cannot get the front end of this 2018 boat out of the water. Running a 25 Fury with 250 ProXS. I hit top speed of only 61 MPH at 5000 rpms. Additional trim just throws larger rooster tail. Do I need to lower the motor, (manual jack plate) raise the motor, change props?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Geee, ya think?

Measure your prop to pad distance. Shoot for around 3-1/2” to start with. Then raise the motor until it starts to get worse, slower, or water pressure drops significantly.

My boat responded really well to raising the motor. It helps to keep the bow up with less trim. This keeps the direction of the props thrust more level to the boat and helps with bow lift and top speed.

I don’t know the physics behind why it works, but it sure did for my boat.

Central Missouri. About 45 minutes from Lake Ozark.

How long have you owned the boat?

First got it on the water in April of this year. Spent the time doing the proper break in and have just now been trying to stretch it out with some wot to see how it would run. Less than 15 hours on the motor.

WOT range on your motor is 5500 to 6000 RPM. Rooster tail should be no higher than top of engine cowling at WOT and trimmed out. Sounds like your motor height is to high. I'd start by lowering the motor a 1/4" at a time. Test run boat and see if your RPM comes up with-in the WOT range and performance improves.

Lowering your motor on the jackplate raises the bow. Raising the motor on the jackplate pushes the bow down.

Measure your prop to pad and then report back.

Things to try:
1. Lower motor.
2. Get the prop worked by someone who understands what you need it to do.
3. Try a different prop.

If you bought new from a dealer then make them get it right.

Brand new boat:

Could be a hotfoot not reaching full throttle.

Could still be in “break in” mode.

Could be a bad coil, plug or wire. Did you change the plugs, like recommended? Might be fouled out from double oiling.

Possible fuel diaphragm leak, notorious for going out.

I would think, if the motor was too high, it would be over revving.
