Well I went to BP again to get a few crappie. But I have also been on the quest to catch the Lake Record Catfish. Well i baited up with two rods with a 6 inch Perch on them. Got broke off once and got a 15 lbs Blue. A long way from the record but I will keep trying. Also ran into a fellow TFF'er. Great guy.

What is the record now? What is your game plan to break it? Have you thought out your gear and tactics? Do you know what to do when you get the record? You looking for a weight record or catch and release?

I only ask because I have also targeted some water body records, got two! But I would have had more had I thought ahead of time what to do once I caught the fish lol.

The lake record for Flatheads is 52 lbs. The one in the picture is 72 lbs. Should of got him certified. But I didn't. I was out Crappie fishing. But I always put out one or two catfish rods. 7"6" proAngler Rod with 20 lbs Bass Pro Offshore angler line. With 5 or 6 size Circle Hook.
I do now know what is needed now. I wasn't going to go from Lake Bridgeport to Texoma on the big one at 9: pm at night.

Sirjet, don't forget about the catch and release waterbody records that Texas Parks and Wildlife keeps. They are based on length and you do not need a scale, just a measuring tape. The required lengths for catfish can be found under their elite angler big fish award requirements. Just search "Elite" on the TPWD page. The go to the Elite Angler Guidelines. You should not have a problem getting some catch and release waterbody records with the size fish you are catching. Let us know how you do? And thank you for your service.

If you really want to understand the record program and how to achieve records you may want to get my book, "The Art of Fishing for Records." It covers everything you need to know about catching records, including some tips and secrets.

You can get the book on amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/Barry-Osborn/e/B07JYRYJSB?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_2&qid=1569539529&sr=8-2

By the way do they still hold the high school basketball playoffs in Duncanville.
My sister went to state three times and won once.

LOL. It has had to come through Duncanville for a while now. They have a nice Basketball program.

I enjoy the challenge of chasing the big catfish. I have seen many people get a big fish on their line and is just not ready.

The right gear is important.
The drag has to be set correctly
You can't get in a hurry.
i thought I knew everything about cat fishing until I started looking into it a little deeper.

Thank Osborn Fishing. I will look into the book.

i might look into records of other Lakes and try to get a couple.
