Carl Jocumsen won the recent BASS Elite tourney. He only weighed in 6 pounds the second day as he said his Humminbird 360 broke and he didn't know where to cast after it went down. So is this where we are headed? We don't cast unless we see a fish on our graph first?

Looks like that's the direction it's going to me. Sad situation for sure.

I see what you're saying but he also stated that the weather played a big role on day 2 for him.

He still won didn’t he? I know I couldn’t go to a lake fish it a handful of times and fish off-shore structure not visible above the water without electronics. We pay good money for our electronics so yea I depend on them.

Dont you think we always been there. Think about all the times you idle around with your old school graphs and found the spot on the spot.

I always thought I would like to see an "old-school" tournament held these days where no graphs could be used to see how these young guns would fare.

I don't understand what the problem is... How is he supposed to know where to be fishing offshore if he can't see the bottom?

Get over yourselves. I'm not a huge fan of modern technology but GPS/fish finders isn't one of them. If you ask me, it takes a lot of skill and practice to learn how to use those graphs correctly and accurately. I'm sure the people that bitch about them are the ones that hardly know how to read them. The young guys can, and look where they are at.. They are making a career from fishing!

What was he supposed to do? Throw on scuba gear and swim down to the bottom to find the structure? I'm no pro by any means and I don't have graphs down 100%, but get over yourselves. I don't see any of you fishing the Bassmaster Elite. Half of y'all barely win the weekend club tournaments.

I had to send my 360 in two weeks ago and I was surprised how much I didnt like fishing without it in a club tourney and even just fun fishing. I have really gotten use to casting to known targets, vs random fan casting fishing.

I have live scope also. The 360 shows me rock piles, ends of rock reefs etc out at 40 feet from my boat and makes it a lot easier to fish those things. The live will show me if there are actually fish on a stump etc. It also shows me if there is blue gill around, which it seems from the few months Ive had it if there are no blue gill around on my local small lakes there are no bass biting..

Without the 360 for 3-4 days of fishing, I found myself constantly on the trolling motor looking around with the live scope.

Ill tell ya IF I had to go that old school I would probably find myself just beating the bank all day, which is something I seldom do on a normal day of fishing.

I'd be doing the same! Kinda hard to fish offshore when you can't see the [censored] bottom!

I loved sitting in my living room and catching fish on my Wii or X-Box. 30-40 pound stringers are easy. With today's technology you now stand on a 75,000.00 boat and play on a Hummingbird or Lowrance. This isn't fishing. It's catching!!
Today's electronics take all the guess work (fun) out of fishing and the sad thing is if you want to compete you have to have them.
I would love to compete in a series that denies the use of today's electronics and equipment and you have to compete like we did 20 years ago. If you wanted to fish the wind then you stood on the trolling motor not spot lock. If you had brush piles out in open water then you had landmarks not waypoints. Sad, Sad, Sad.

You're only headed that way if you choose to do so. You can catch plenty of fish the old way.

Heck ya that's where we are headed. You wanna fish old school good luck. The pressure the fish get nowadays you have to have technology. When fishing something so specific like he was, you definitely need to see it to line up correctly. Pretty common actually, there are spots on Rayburn and I'm sure other pressured lakes that if you are off 10ft in either direction they won't bite.

And yet we still see with $75k bassboats with twin 16 inch graphs all over every area lake daily beating the banks as if all of the fish are located on shoreline structure. You can teach a man to fish but you can't cure stupid.
I've outfished local yahoo's with expensive bassboats on my local lake when I had a simple jon boat, no electronics and no trolling motor.
By the way, I now have a spot lock gps trolling motor and Lowrance HDS Live and I consistently catch fish...being able to find them is one thing...making them bite is another
