Needing help to determine the proper Prop for a 1997 Procraft 205 Pro with a 1997 mercury 225 EFI motor. Currently it has a 25p trophy 2 4 blade prop. I cannot push myself up on the trailer, looking for suggestions to add a3blade prop. I’ve tried a 3 blade 25p fury and the motor couldn’t push it up out of the hole. Couldn’t get above 2200 rpm. Put my 4 blade back on and no issues coming out of the hole.
Any help would be appropriated.

Get a 25 pitch tempest plus and put 3 medium plugs in it. Set your prop to 3 1/4 below pad and you should be good to go.

The first thing I would have checked is that all six coils are still good. If you have a bad one it will kill your low end torque.

Question: Would the prop push the boat up onto the trailer before? Is this a new issue?

The older Trophy props were never known to have good low end torque on that motor unless they had a lot of ventilation aka PVS holes on the barrel of the prop. The newer Trophy props have a 3/4" hole drilled thru the barrel in front of each of the four blades.

Typically a 3 blade Tempest or Fury will be better for pushing the boat up onto the trailer.

Not a new issue. Just trying to find a 3 blade prop. The trophy has the PVS holes with 3 of them with the medium plugs and one with a solid plug. It never would push the boat in the trailer since I’ve had it. That’s why I’ve been looking for a 3 blade prop. Put the 25p 3 Blade fury on last night and the motor would only turn about 2200rpms. Went back to the ramp and put the 4 blade trophy back on , no issues getting out of the hole up on plane. It seemed as if the fury was to much for the motor to turn.

Those furys are alot harder to turn pitch for pitch compared to a tempest. Call Josh At Steves custom props and get his advise. A 25 tempest with his tweaks will be the ticket. Furys tend to run a little flat on alot of boats.

Something is definitely wrong. All things being equal a 4 blade prop will be harder to turn than a 3 blade prop of the same pitch. I have a 225 Opti that I run a 23 Tempest Plus 3 blade prop on. I can barely bump the 5700 rpm rev limiter. I tried a 24 Trophy and could only get 4600. What I am saying is either the Trophy or the Fury is not marked right or it has been worked and is not what it is marked anymore.

Oh yeah to your original problem. I believe I could load my Basscat into the bed of my truck if I wanted too.

I’ve talked to Josh @ Steve’s prop shop and he said he feels I need to install a jack 10” jack plate to move the motor back from the transom ( currently no jack plate). Also spoke with Chuck @ service marine and he said it would matter either way. He said it is due to the 97 mercury efi motor that it doesn’t have enough low end torque to turn any 3 blade prop. Not sure who to go with. I’m sure this motor as been used on other set ups. Just looking for advice.

What Chuck told you makes no sense.

josh knows his stuff. between he and steve they have been doing my props for about 10 yrs. now.

first thing you need to check is the engine, coils, regulators, compression and plugs.

then go to prop, probably a 24 tempest the josh worked if engine checks out but 2200 with a 3 blade says something is wrong internally to me.

+1 on this one.

Chuck should know his stuff but I have owned a few (28) bass boats over the years and a 3 blade Tempest or Fury is almost always better for low end and hole shot. The only way to get a 4 blade Trophy to come outta the hole really well on a Merc is to ventilate the carp outta it.

If the Trophy has a blowout ring on it remove it for more ventilation. I would start with no pvs plugs and if it blows out add plugs until holeshot is good. I think 10" jack plate would help

Installed a 12” manual jack plate. It helped the hole shot with the 4 blade trophy, but still same results with the 3 blade Fury.
That motor doesn’t like the fury and can’t turn it. I don’t think it is an engine issue, I can jump up on plain with the 4 blade and run around 5600 rpm at WO throttle.

Researched online and some guys said they had success with a tempest plus, question is home much difference is between a tempest plus and the fury.

Not much difference between those two. The Fury was created by Merc from a new harder alloy that allows it to be thinner & stronger than the SS they were making the Tempest props from. Thinner blades nearly always translate into more speed. If both props are the same pitch & diameter they should perform very similarly. The Fury should be faster on bottom end & top end if both are the same.

Sounds like you may have a bad Fury that may have been damaged and repaired and not very well at that. I would take it to Steve's propeller and have them check to see if all three blades are same pitch. Sounds crazy I know but I have taken brand new out of the box props and found one blade to be off by 2" compared to the others.
