Another day in paradise, but it won't last long if last year is any indication. Fished from daybreak til 1:00 pm. Water temp was 89-91 degrees and the lake was up a little. Mainly fished 3 areas & had success at each, but it seems that they are starting to move out to deeper water. Caught around 70-80, with the majority coming off an old road bed by trees in 6-8 feet of water. all caught on Gulp Alive minnows, mostly in the emerald shad color. Mostly fished this color because I was running out of the chartreuse...it didn't matter. I did fish the "Tiny Jig" at the reed beds where I was catching fish, for about a half hour with no success. Tried under a crappie popping float & free line. Just could not get ay distance casting that little guy. All fish released. Here is a 11 minute video with video footage & pics of the trip. There was no wind all day & lots of puffy clouds which makes for best video & pics.Fayette 9-23-19

Solid post and a super neat video. You sir are having a GREAT year!

Side Note: How many fish can you catch off of one Gulp Alive Minnow compared to one live night crawler?

Were 100's of dead Rio Grandes and other small bream floating at the rip rap Saturday. Reeked of sewage too. You see and smell any of that?

gar...no problem...I really feel like it is better suited for gravel bottoms & rivers that have lots of mayflies. My son in law does lots of fly fishing in the Guadalupe & I will see what he thinks of them.

Gitter...That's really hard to say. Sometimes they tear up the Gulp Alive on the 1st cast & sometimes it lasts for 3 - 5 fish. Overall I think they last a little longer than night crawlers, but when you cut the big night crawlers into fourths they are about the same. The biggest advantage for the Gulp Alive is that their is way less mess (clothes, boat, hands) , you don't have to keep them refrigerated, and you get way fewer small fish.

Basscatone...I saw no dead fish, other than one dead tilapia in the reed beds, but I only fished a small portion of the rip rap...

I have fished Fayette a bunch over the years. I remember several fish kills that have occurred on Fayette but not that many. The ones I remember happened at the end of summer! I think the oxygen content played a HUGE factor.

Thanks Chuck...you need to get up to Fayette more often.
Laker...I thought you were going to Fayette this week...the wind has been real light this week...great for kayakers.
Gitter...I agree about the oxygen levels...normally there is lots of wind on that lake, but recently it has been pretty calm...wonder if that could be a factor on that hot water. I have not see many fish kills either & I fish it a lot...

Wind plays a huge factor in surface water temperature. I have seen numerous fish kills on Calaveras over the years all have occurred during the late summer months. Hot summer temperatures on a power plant lake is the perfect storm for a fish kill. Power plant lakes work triple time during a hot summer! Summertime heat with the water coming out of a power plant is very tough on a fish.

Gitter...I guess only the strongest fish survive. I have seen the fish kills on Calaveras as well...way more than Fayette over the years. We need a cool front real bad. I saw that Montana was getting snow today...we can't be too far off from some cooler weather.

Thanks Vogey. I have heard from other anglers who use em that can catch 2 or 3 fish per minnow. These are bass that they are talking about and not sunfish. I would think you could catch more sunnies per minnow than the larger bass! 2cents

I watched Fred (Rionator) catch around 8 to 10 Bluegill with one Gulp Minnow while fishing Decker this past summer!
