Spots are usually kept secret, if not your honey holes will be highly pressured. All it takes is you telling one friend and then everyone is fishing it. Believe me I know this first hand. Last October I boat a 12.38 largemouth after after loosing two more double digit bass moments earlier. I called the park ranger to come weigh it for me. When he showed up there was about 15 other anglers standing around to watch. In the process of weighing, measuring and fin clipping he also asked where I caught it. I was very reluctant to answer with all those prying ears but did because he was filling out a report for TPWD. I thought I’d try my spot the next morning but couldn’t get near it for the boats on it. It was like that for two weeks and prior to catching that lunker no one had been fishing that area of the like much at all.

I might ask what lures you used and hope you would tell me. But for the spot I just say the lake name. Don’t want my honey hole to go dry.

I'm fairly tight lipped-I'm happy to tell then what techniques I used and what depth I found them but I generally won't give
out an actual location unless I know the person and know they can keep it to themselves.

The internet has been really hard on smaller bodies of water where I live-somebody brags about the good fishing they had
and once word gets out the crowds show up.

I always tell folks they are/are not biting wherever I may be fishing.

There's a difference between telling someone your spot on a pond or tiny creek and one of the area lakes. I've told people exact spots with exact baits, time of year, time of day and even presentation and yet I never see the people I tell be able to fish those spots as well as I do. On highly pressured lakes like Fayette County or Fork, it's the subtleties that hold consistent big fish.

I tell them exactly where, when, and what with.

Fishermen are very tight lipped and not forthcoming. I asked a friend about this who fishes in a south Louisiana bass club with members he's known for years. He says they generally take pride in dissembling and telling little white lies about how and where they caught fish. It's somewhere in the fisherman's code I think.

I will tell them the river, creek,or lake. I will also tell what I was using for bait along with depth of water I caught the fish. As for exact location. I would not say a word! thumb

My Grandfather taught it was flat RUDE to ask "Where did you catch them?"

So- I very rarely tell Where/When...But I often don't have a problem sharing how.

Part of the Challenge/Reward of fishing is the "Struggle" of working hard to find and figuring them out...For me catching is the real Prize!

It is much less rewarding when another angler does all the homework then says: "Use this lure and cast there..."

Maybe you HELP them more by NOT telling them everything or anything...Much better when you figure it our yourself! (My opinion)

Simon Peter said to them "I am going fishing" They said "We are going fishing also."
