Anyone ever have a crankbait crack on the lip before? First time using this lure and caught a small bass. Next few casts I noticed it was sinking and acting funny. Looked at it and it has a crack right on the lip. Not sure if I could drain it and seal it up to keep using it. Any help would be great since these are like $15 each.

None needed. Send to Strike King and a nice note. They will replace it.

Thanks I will have to try that. Maybe check my others first to make sure they don’t have issues.

YIep, it happens more than I care for. As mentioned, glue it yourself or send it back. I normally put a little Gorilla Glue on it and keep fishing it, until it DOES come apart. Have to clean it up and sand a little bit, but it works. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I lost a really good bass on an 8XD. All I got back was the bill and split ring. Poor fish probably had all 6 hooks in it along with a big chunk of plastic.

Steez,
THAT is why most of my CBs get an extra going over and put glue on and around the bill. Takes a ittle bit to sand it off, but also makes it a lot stronger, too. EXPerieNcE is what taught me do not trust most of the CBs coming out today, so I customize them by adding glue and or even paint, to change the look of them Hope this helps Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I agree. Been “Sealing/Gluin,Sandin n paintin”, for 20 years. Spinnerbaits twistin’tunin, tyin I STILL use some “old” baits. Seems that nowadays you HAVE to do it on ALL of them, OR have a “Steez McQueen” event. Steez will laugh at this, but that ol, Bass you lost lived. SHE just swam up on the flat, found a stump, got the hooks ripped out, healed up & is waitin on ya to come back. She said to tell ya “You better have it together next time! Because She’s put on 4#,s too. She said she’s gonna own ya!! LOL

I had a nice one on a Cloud9 the other day and they can just swim to a stump and knock themselves free. The amazing thing is I caught my own lure the next morning and saved the $10 lure. Bass do this on reed roots too. How the hell are they able to wiggle themselves free like that. As an engineer type I can see getting free from treble hooks, but seems weird that they can get free from a 5/0 or 6/0 swim bait hook. I'm like how the hell do they do that?

The survival skills of some creatures will amaze you, I’ve seen many 3 legged raccoons & coyotes when I was growing up, that had been caught in traps/toe snares, they had chewed out of it. Yes, they chew their own leg or foot off to get free. Bass are no different. Of course not all that do it survive ,but some do. They don’t wiggle free or KNOCK it out, they RIP it out if they can get just 1 hook snagged on something solid, just like a coyote chews it’s leg off below the knee joint or ankle area. Bobcats will do the same. Mainly predators that have the survive at all costs tendencies, but I’ve seen 3 legged deer that had been caught in a fence & thrashed around till the wire cut all the way through. I had a 3 legged doe on my ranch at Brady that had done it. She survived 5 years with 3 1/2 legs. We called her Peggy 3.5

I caught a 5 lber on a spinnerbait one time , when I was unhooking it , I noticed a small piece of line , about 4 inches , coming out it's arse , I slowly pulled on the line and out came a full size brush hog on a 5/0 EWG . The hook itself was a bit rusty , and the point was no longer very sharp --- but the hook point itself was fully exposed . I assumed that brush hog had been in there a while and eventually worked it's way through her system to where the line came out first . The bass itself was a little skinny , so probably had some difficulty feeding /digesting while the BHog was in there . But otherwise a strong healthy fish .

One of the 4 pounders I weighed in Saturday had about 4’ of line and a ewg hanging from its gullet. I laughed and told my co that someone “broke off a ten pounder”! Lol.
