Myself,Rick aka Catyakker, and our good fishing buddy Steve are still catching plenty of nice fish. This past week we have fished several South Central Texas and hill country rivers and creeks. Nice fat Rios,Redear, Bluegill, Redbreast and plenty of Guadalupe Bass, are being caught. The Rios are starting to move and are becoming more active searching for food. Fish seem to still be in their summer patterns. The Bluegill and Redear are not as active. The ones we are catching are in 8 to 12 feet of water either in Hydrilla or weed beds. The Rios in the rivers are in 5 to 8 feet of water and in the creeks they are being found in 3 to 5 feet of water by Hydrilla beds or brush piles close to the banks. The Guadalupe Bass were all caught in hill country rivers. They were by stick-ups and weed beds close to flowing current in about 4 to 6 feet of water. Worms were used! Most fish were released but several were kept by Steve for an upcoming fish dinner! Also met up with Leo aka Gar 1970 and his wife Yesenia aka Pot Licker. Leo gave me some homemade jigs that he and his wife had made. Even though I use the "Bait of Champions" worms about 99 percent of the time I told him I will give them a try. Will be using them soon! For what I have heard by other anglers they work great. Fishing some beautiful places in Texas with friends. It just don't get any better! fish

Chuck...Nice rios & super report. I'm going to give those tiny jigs a try next week as well. They also gave me a very cool decal that is going on my truck. Where are the rios moving to this time of year ? The water really hasn't started cooling down much.

Thanks Steve for the reply! I am going to try the jigs on a float. I have a pretty good set up that I think will work! hooked As for the Rios they are starting to move looking for food. In the smaller rivers you can find them by brush piles or weed beds in 4 to 6 feet of water. They are also moving in schools. In creeks they are usually by brush piles close to the banks. They also like rock/gravel bottoms. Rios are trying to fatten up before winter. Usually after the first strong cold front,Rios are hard to find. They simply hunker down in Hydrilla beds, weed beds,or brush piles. A cold winter will take it's toll on a Rio population. The last two winters have been on the warm side and thus there are a lot of Rios! thumb

Man that looks fun. Didn't make it out this past week but really have the itch now. I have this week to fish as the first week of October I'll be heading back to Colorado to hopefully fill my speed goat tag.

Thanks Leo and Bones72 for the replies: cheers Leo: Steve is a fish eating machine. He loves fresh fish! food He eats his fare share of Rios. I personally do not eat Rios even though Steve and other friends of mine do and have all said they taste very good. Steve has a ton of ways he cooks and prepares his fish. During the trout stocking season he prepares smoked Rainbow Trout. I have had them plenty of times and they are "Mighty Good"! food I love eating the Bluegill and Redear! Next to Crappie and White Bass, they are hard to beat!

Bones72: The Rios are on the move! From now till the first major cold front arriving, they will be active searching for food. Now is the BEST time to catch a BIG Rio! hooked

Will do! Hopefully by mid to late October I'll be able to do a little more fishing and a little less working.
