Looking for feedback on running a lithium starter battery. Would still leave Optima’s for trolling motor batteries.

Relion 100HP is what I use. Replaced a dual purpose group 31 AGM and saved approx 45lb.

Powers a 3L Mercury, 2 helix 12's and a helix 10 all day with ease.

Charge it with a minn kota precision 4 bank

Thanks for the response.

Are you supposed to use a Minn Kota 4 bank charger for Lithium? I thought they required a specific lithium charger.

RELiON will tell you that you can and I do now. I use a Minn Kota Precision charger as of now but they also say that it will not charge to full capacity maybe 90 - 95%, and still I l’ve fished for days without charging. Also I would recommend adding a battery gauge so you can keep an eye on battery health.

I just ordered a Stealth 1 charger that will charge to full capacity and use the alternator from the motor to charge as I go and distribute the charge through out the system to the TM batteries once the cranking battery is full. The people I’ve talked with say a lot of times their batteries are fully charged when they get off the lake. This will also help to keep your batteries from going through a full charge cycle therefore help to prolong the life of your batteries.

The lithium batteries can handle thousands (2,000 - 3,000) of charge cycles vs. hundreds with AGM, and lead-acid giving incredibly long life. I plan on taking these batteries and using in my next boat in 5-10 years.

I dropped over 100lbs switching to Lithium from AGM and it makes a huge difference in performance.

I will admit, I was nervous about spending the $ upfront but if they last as long as they’re supposed to + all the other benefits then it makes the decision easy.
