Smoking increases your risk of cancer by 5 times. Being 50 years old increases your risk of cancer by 100 times. Being 70 increase your risk of cancer by 1000 times. Apparently getting old is very bad for your health.

I’m pretty sure if you smoke long enough you’re going to get lung cancer. The question is will something else kill you first.

That's actually an important point you bring up. If we could completely cure cancer, it would only add about 2 years onto the average human lifespan. The reason the number is so small is because something else just winds up killing you. (heart disease, stroke, hip fracture, etc...)
