Unfortunately the fix will not be easy or cheap. I have no idea what the best option would be. I think everyone is entitled to basic health care, as most do, because no one ever says let the kid die if his parents can't pay. That being the case, everyone should share in the cost of providing that care. I think the ACA was right in requiring that everyone have coverage of some kind. Employer provided insurance is probably going away just as the vested retirement plans have mostly gone away. Many doctors are earning less than they did 15 years ago, but still a very sustainable income.

I'm thinking a two tier system is probably the way to go. Provide a basic plan similar to medicare for tier 1, and if something better is desired, a tier 2 plan offered by insurance will be available with the additional cost paid by the individual. My guess is that the tier 2 option will go away after a few years because people will not be willing to pay.

I will give the dems credit for discussing options but the R's have offered no solutions. They mostly complain but have nothing to offer.

You make an interesting point about doctor's income. Below is the (surprising to me) result of a poll among medical students about the ACA:

Quote
(Adam) Bonica cited a 2017 survey of 1,660 medical students published in the journal Academic Medicine. The survey reported that 89.1 percent said they supported Obamacare.

I'm not surprised that med students support ACA but it is not the main reason their income is down. Insurance companies negotiate lower rates from the docs and if the doc doesn't agree, they will take them off the list of providers. The main problem with ACA that I have with docs is that those who were barely able to afford insurance, now have a higher rate and cannot afford it. That needs to be fixed for sure. But they do get paid if the patient has ACA and before had nothing. If you are a doctor in private practice, but you are on emergency call at a public hospital, which you are often required to cover if you have hospital privileges, and you treat someone who has no means of payment, you or the hospital do not get paid. If the patient has ACA, you do get paid.

Takes a long time to fix what was got broken so badly over 8 years

Yup... Sadly some in power do not want to see it fixed either.

Health insurance was cheap in 2008 and 2012? Why do you think OB won? Keep voting against affordable insurance...... with zero solutions.
Genius. .

Mine isn't either. But the ACA was about DB;s that have none.... and depend on the Emergency room. And drive responsible peoples price. Buy insurance or pay. That sounds like a conservative plan.

Serious question, is there very many other countries you can drop in their ER rooms and get treated for flu with them expecting to get paid?

Because that is just ridiculous-

What has happed to you does not define who you are-

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Pretty much every other developed country on earth, It is built into the tax system. And not 100% controlled by corporations who have bought the GOP.
