I'll be going on an extended fishing tripthis winter. Got an ultrex and wanted to know what guys are using to keep it from getting stolen. Just three bolts and that thing comes off-looking for something that would make it harder to get.

Remove it at night if concerned. I just don’t worry about it and so far never had an issue

Yep. Mine is on a corner lot, in the driveway.....going on 2-1/2 years. Yeh it’s new. Yeh it’s expensive. Yeh it’s safe.
Beside, if it IS stolen, it will be with a sawzall and it will likely be way more money fixing the boat vs replacing the TM.
Just make sure you have pictures of it on the boat and and a receipt for the insurance company if it happens.
You DO have insurance. Right?

Dont make yourself a target. Removable bracket and bring it in at night.

I got it! Get a custom Ultrex cover made that says “Motorguide” on it. Best of both worlds then!

It was damn near impossible to reach the underside of the bolts to install mine. If someone manages to detach mine, they've earned it.

I cannot imagine getting a trolling motor stolen from a boat, that takes way too much time and work for the crack heads to do.

It was damn near impossible to reach the underside of the bolts to install mine. If someone manages to detach mine, they've earned it. It is ONE bolt to remove the ultrex... ONE removes the head shaft assembly etc from the mount. The pedal is usually screwed down and at least on my boat my cables etc are ran UNDER my front shroud. I honestly dont worry about it I think the 3 helix and garmin will be more tempting than a Ultrex you would have to cut the cables on etc to be quick in lifting..

My boat is insured for around $5000 for theft. I have an HDS Live 9 and a Motorguide Xi5...insurance will cover it and I have a $100 deductible. If I fished tournaments, Charter Lakes insures tournament anglers as well. Other than tying your Doberman up to the trailer when you're at the hotel and standing guard with your Glock, insurance and common sense is your best protection.

Good insurance. I have progressive and their $10,000 equipment value policy.
