If you've ever wondered what a hero looks like, there's three of them in the picture below. I had the privilege of spending the morning of what is usually a very mournful day in the history of our country, guiding the combat vets on what was a very special outing. Both the Navy and Marines were represented on this trip, so you know there was some trash talk going on. We spent our morning on main lake points and humps, focusing on logs and submerged timber in 12-15ft. We caught them on jigs from both Slab Syndicate and Constant Pursuit Outfitters until around 9:00am, then it was minnow time if you wanted to get bit.

Listening to these guys and there stories made for both a very entertaining and a very saddening morning, with the reality of what they continue to go through still very apparent to an outsider looking in. The woods and the water are both places where I've seen combat vets get a chance to open up, as they can say exactly what they want, and nobody is there to judge. These guys are heroes of this country, and the fact they trust me to help them and show them a good time, is beyond humbling. I am a very blessed man to hunt and fish for a living, and I owe to all to the Man upstairs and those who have fought for my right to live the way I get to live.
