So anyone who has spent any time with me know,,,I AM A PADDLER NOT A PEADLER. That said...i think i need a tandem hobie compass. This comes from all the kiddos are too big to fit in my boat. They do have their own yaks but i want a way to get them further distance mainly want the kids to come to the offshore rigs with me. I know i am not going to go fast like my stealth or be the best everything for me boat like my viking but it does increase the options. I guess this is a humble eating my words post. Im gonna get buns of steel. flush_2

Right tool for the right job. Make sure there is actually room for two people to wield their rods.

Exactlly the reason i think pedals are a good option in this situation. I dont expect to troll ever offshore with anymore than 2 rods. I bring more but 2 are in action the rest put away. Anchored 4 rods is good. I also know im not going all prof salt distance but 2ft and less say the rigs within 3 or 4 miles. It does look a bunch wider than im used to so any paddling im going to be busting my knuckles for a while. Nothing excites me more than being right there with the kids on their first several yard sales and deep water reentry while getting hammered by surf. Thats the good stuff right there.

Christian it's all about sacrifices with kids. Sounds like you're making a big one but a good one.

I've never been in a Compass duo but I did recently demo the Compass and new Outback. The one thing that stood out with both me and Teresa is the seat was not comfortable. The gap between the base of the seat and the back of the seat I think is part of it. Also it's set at a really steep angle more so than other peddle kayaks. The Outback tandem which is now call the Oasis is about a grand more but will be faster and has a seat that is (IMO) way more comfortable. There are a couple of used ones for sale online if that's an option.

You get out of it what you put into it!

What about a Viking Tempo 2 adapted with a Bixpy?

Gosh, Christian, I just hate tandem fishing . . . even from my large and wide Meyers Sportspal S-15 canoe. It might be better from a tandem kayak, I don't know, but I doubt it. Maybe a Hobie PA 17 would be okay.

I'd certainly rent a tandem, or demo one, to see if you can still fish from it with another person aboard.

I feel like I'm a taxi driver when I go out tandem. For recreational outings with my grand kids? Sure. Fishing? No bueno for me.

Brad

I have thought about the tempo 2 also. There are a couple issues with this, 1 i have to paddle. I prefer it single but with my son in front trolling 2 rods i would be all in his lines. Also currently viking is very slow to respond and isnt sold locally anymore. As much as i love vikings they were taken out of this. As far as fishing from a tandem goes, thats not my goal. I want kids to fish. I have caught my fair share of big fish and want to focus on the kids now.

Bravo sir! It's all about the kids.

I would personally lean toward the Oasis. However, the Compass is proven and if I'm not mistaken, it's a bit lighter.

If it helps any... If you end up buying one, I hereby promise to never remind you that you own a pedaler. Lol

call up mariner sails and see if they have a tandem on hand to demo or at least see. I recall seeing the dual hobie over there last summer and it was huge plus it had a trailex trailer to pull it.
On top of that it was $$$$$///

That one you are describing is the pro angler 17. A very cool boat but a bit more than i am looking for. I could never imagine going offshore with that. The two mentioned above, compass tandem and the oasis is what i am thinking.
