Well was supposed to be Rio and sunfish fishing. I had the intent of targeting some fish I had seen a few days ago. There had been a run about 30 yards long chock full of good sized Rios on one bank and towards the middle a bunch of eater sized redbreasts. My flies had run out that day. My last Hare's Ear was just scraps of thread and one rubber leg. I returned today with visions of slaying some big panfish. Nope; it was not to be the whole are was like the seen of a crime. Saw just a few longears when I entered the little pool and they looked nervous. So stood there for a bit watching and looking. Saw a two dark shadows cruising in and out of the undercut bank and root balls dangling in the water. then saw one shape about two foot long charge out and make a longear disappear. Hmmm... . Looked in my box and I had two #4 white/chartreuse/purple clousers. Biggest thing I had on hand. Made about a thirty foot toss and one strip; game on. Ten minutes later and lots of excitement and then this. [Linked Image]

Hope some of the Rios made it or found a safer home

It was pretty epic. Didn't know this body of water had them so I was double surprised. Guess they are kinda everywhere now.

Should have kept him thought they had to be 28 inches he was at 27 and 3/4. Didn't want to be on Lonestar Law so let him go. Read regs when I got home and only and 18 in limit. Looked at old reg books lying around from all my travels. Guess that was a 2007 Kentucky reg. Danggit he would have been good with some 'slaw and hushpuppies.

Love some catfish. They are pretty fecund like white bass, crappie and bluegill too, so I don't feel guilty keeping them. Some of the bigger flathead up over 30 lbs or so I do because they are probably over twenty years old. That was probably around the 10 lb mark.
