I have never seen it happen, but my dad did it to a friends truck once. He didnt put the parking brake on and the truck slipped out of gear as they were loading the boat and just rolled back into the water. I assume it is less likely now since finding standard transmissions is almost impossible now, but even automatics slip out of gear sometimes.

Witnessed it @ Steamboat Shores Lake fork.....
Steamboat should explain why.

I've only fished with him once, but he told us that story first thing just to get it out of the way

Saw the aftermath at Lake Mead NV. Was that July 2018 diesel PU truck trying to launch 30' sailboat?

Is it pretty much over forever for the truck after they have been submerged like that? I would think so since water would get into all of the electronics, switches, motor etc. What say ye o wise OT, salvageable or not?

Let the insurance company have it. It's possible you might get it running again, but you could never rely on it.

Insurance will immediately total if water gets into the dash where all the electrical stuff is.

I saw two guys sink a Lincoln Town Car years ago at Ray Hubbard. Got their boat on the trailer and got out to tighten the wench but left the car in neutral. The boat floated up but it pulled the car almost all the way into the water. One of the guys could probably have jumped in and stopped it but he was just yelling and screaming like a teenage girl.
