My DIL was diagnosed with Ocular melanoma several years ago. It’s a cancer that spreads through the blood stream and the outcome is not good. She went to the doctor today and they verified it’s spread to her liver which is generally the first place it attacks. Was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this type cancer and might have a story to tell. She could use some prayers.
Thanks

My paternal grandmother was diagnosed with it in 1974. They removed her eye and everything was okay until 1989, when it appeared in her liver. She had a very large tumor and had it removed. She underwent what was at the time an experimental treatment, Interleukin (which is now the primary chemotherapy for it) and had to sue her insurance company to pay for the treatment...she won. In 1998, melanoma once again reared it's ugly head and showed up as a brain tumor. She once again underwent surgery and had the tumor removed. She lived another 32 months before dying from heart failure....My sisters and I carry the genes (we have been tested after my oldest sister was diagnosed with melanoma in 2013), and one niece recently had a scare when a mole came back as severe atypical.
The important thing is for your DIL to get angry, to get informed, and to fight...It can be beat. My grandmother did it for darn near 30 years after her initial diagnosis...and she was the meanest, most heartless creature to ever live....well, next to my father (wonder where he got it?)...
I'll say a prayer for your DIL....cancer sucks.

I'll say a prayer for your DIL....cancer sucks. Wow, thanks for that encouragement. She had her eye removed two years ago. We were hoping that was going to take care of it but we knew it was just going to be a matter of time before it would spread we just hoped it would be longer than two years.

My younger sister was diagnosed with it about 10 years ago, they tried to save her eye by doing radiation treatment to the eye,the treatment nearly killed her,she was sent to MD Anderson in Houston where they removed her eye,she has been cancer free since then. She is a member of a support group for ocular melanoma survivors, I will forward you her contact info if she would to talk to her, just send me a PM.
