Late last week and leading up to Labor Day Monday, Richland Chambers got tougher than nails and sandwiched in between my Friday and Monday Trip, I had the worst trip of 2019. Saturday was that day and we had a really big Storm that rolled thru around 9:30AM and dumped about an inch of rain along with the 30 MPH North Winds. I can't blame it all on the Storm as fishing had been tough the day before but not like Saturday. I managed a dozen fish for my Party before the Wind got us off RC. hmmm I wish I had taken the same Route as Adam as he had 52 Keeper Whites and a respectable morning! Fishing in Late Summer on RC can be very humbling and I've learned over the years to be prepared for "One of those Days" to happen at any time! I take the Catfish Rods and Danny Kings Punch Bait along and I had to use it three days last week in order to insure a little more action and a box of fish for my Customers. On a positive note, yesterday was a bit better as I found a school of fish first thing in the AM and my Crew put 40 fish in the ice chest the first hour of the trip. Good thing they did as we ended the morning with 53 Whites and 18 Catfish! Normally we get a little cooler temps in late September and the fishing improves dramatically in October. Here's hoping for an early Fall and Great Fishing! We have plenty of Weekdays open and even one boat open on Saturday, Sept. 7 & 14. Check out our "Package Special" at www.gonefishin.biz . Here's a few Pics from the Labor Day Holiday!

It has been my experience that on average September is the toughest white bass fishing month of the year. I attribute it to a new hatch of shad and have to down size to much smaller bait to have success. Guides here go to the hell-pet rig and troll. I don't like trolling, so I use a #2 Mepps with weight up the line, cast to the fish and drag it along the bottom horizontally - like it would look if trolling it. Also, some lakes seem to be worse than others. Tawakoni does not seem to be affected, whereas RC and Eagle Mountain can really turn off.

Dennis,

Seems that June and September can be transition months & tough almost every year. This year June was about as good as it gets and I'm guessing it was due to the late Spring. Guessing you're correct on the Shad hatch too!!! I'm with you on the Trolling and I'll quit fishing before I resort to that tactic. Just too tough to fish 3 to 5 folks, troll and keep everyone happy! bang Good Luck and hope for cooler weather soon! Thanks for your comments!

Thanks for the post! Glad to hear of an experienced person saying how tough late summer fishing can be. I haven’t hybrid fished in a month and just been channel catfishing and loving it! Great change of pace and always puts fish in the boat for myself and guests.

Same thing here. It got tough overnite...I think that little front about ten days ago knocked them off their pattern. With the heat back on I suspect they will be game the next few days.

Hey Keith, what is the current situation with the zebra mussels? I stopped by the lake on my way thru yesterday and noticed that it looked like they are not as prominent as they were last year. What is your opinion of it?

They have receded quite a bit, 2017-2018 was unfreaking real! Everything to the waters edge was covered completely. They had a big die off over the winter, Shad did too for the matter.

The Zebras are still there, especially along the bottom, I bet they cycle back up. We did find out that Drum devour them, resulting in some gigantic ones being caught.

Fishing for the Whites and Hybrids is still tough with a little early AM action and then when you find the fish, they don't stay put very long. I did get a report of some Top Water activity on the Flats on Sunday AM so I checked it out yesterday. Had about 30 minutes of good action and then they were gone. I found a couple of other small Schools on Pelican Island and Main Lake Points. I'm still going to my "Go To" fish when it gets tough and catching lots of Eater Size Catfish for my Customers. Hope this Top Water from yesterday is an indication of some increased activity for the Fall! Adam and I have Weekday openings next Week and we had a Two Boat Family Trip cancel on Saturday, September 14th. If you would like a Saturday Trip, give us a call or check us out at www.gonefishin.biz . Here's a Pic from my last outing with a couple of Guys from Belton! thumb

Good job Royce. You need to tell us the story behind the “fish in the front pockets” in your last customer photo ... I’m kinda diggin’ the look 😂😂

Ken is a retired Judge who has fished with me for years. He recently retired & moved from Abilene to Belton. He is a hoot to fish with as he loves to catch anything that is biting. He has a great sense of humor, has a 1000 jokes & there's never a dull moment. His brother in law joined him this trip.
