Alright guys, title says what I have, and it’s not turning on, it’s getting power ( checked with test light ). Grounds are good. It had problems turning off quite a bit, it acted like you’d let go of it before the countdown finished. A couple weeks ago it took about 10 minutes to get it to turn on. Is there anything I can do guys? I can’t complain it was given to me but I don’t have the money to fork out for another graph.

New Guy, I just sold a 998 and found the original DVD for installation and operation. If you'd like to have it pm me your address and I'll send it to you. FYI, the biggest pain in the butt of all those "birds" is the hold for 2 seconds feature. They are a pain, but you'll just kinda have to learn the "sweet spot" of how hard to press it when you're shutting it down. Good luck.

Plug it straight into the battery, you may find that there is a problem with your feed cable. My new Helix would not come on but I had 12 volts on the wires, but when I hooked it directly to the battery it works, therefor there is a problem with the feed wires so I reran a new wire to the battery.

Fivebites I appreciate the offer dude, but I have the dvd and I’ve had the graph for months and it’s worked great. It just started turning on less and less

The power cord connection to the display is typically the failure since it is sort of a sloppy fit so can it be easily unplugged along with the other cables in the collector block (big plug)
Remove the cable collector and locate the power cord plug---has two pins.
Take a pencil point and adjust the two pins in any direction, but VERY LITTLE and VERY GENTLE. The pins still have to line up with the tiny holes in the unit receptacle--look at them.

Then reattach the cable collector.

Give hummingbird a call, a friend had a very cheap unit and they walked him through his problems and got him fixed up.

It's probably getting less power as the battery ages. I had this problem with a Helix of mine (like a previous poster). The solution for the Helix was to run bigger wires, to get the additional amperage.

I'll be at Fork in a couple of weeks. You can try my 998 C SI if you want to test with another system. Live in Arlington which looks like it too far just to test unless I'm out your way.

I had the same problem a few years ago. It turned out to be the cranking battery. Even though the battery cranked the engine fine. Strange and don't ask my why it was the cranking battery. Still scratching my head on that one. Also sometimes it would come on and the turn off while driving in rough water. Ended up swapping the cranking battery with the cranking battery and it solved the issue. Worth a try and won't cost you any money.

Correction: Ended up swapping the starting battery with the cranking battery and it solved the issue.
