Wont hurt my feelings. Never found the big deal about that lake. Rather go to Fayette or Coleto creek

Lots of memories from that lake. I got to fish three days of the first week it was opened. Never have I caught fish like that since. Fished it many times in the first year and always did well. Donโ€™t know what happened after that but it went down hill fast.

The only thing I'll miss about that place are the huge catfish you could catch in the discharge and flipping the big stumps with slip corks and cut tilapia. Pretty fun on a flipping stick and 65lb braid when you set up on a 40-50lb blue cat.

Quick story about a friend who fished it often back in the early 90's in his new bass cat. He was leaving the discharge area and headed back to the ramp at a pretty nice clip. As he approached the ramp, my buddy shuts it down quickly when he sees a game warden on the ramp waving him over frantically. He is thinking he is going to get a ticket for going too fast, when in reality, the game warden needs his help. As he approached, he noticed a flat bottom boat on the other side of the ramp. Game Warden says "I need to borrow your livewell to transport a fish up to the store". The guy (young kid he said) in the flat bottom boat then starts to pull a stringer in hanging off the flat bottom that has a huge bass on the end of it. My buddy fills his livewell and puts the boat on the trailer as the kid brings the fish over. My buddy said he had never in his life seen such a huge fish. The game warden had a scale and told him they had weighed it before he arrived and it was over 14 LBS. I am not sure what the official weight turned out to be, but that lake had a pretty good run of 10 or so years where it produced some giants.

Everything on your bass boat is broken......You just don't know it yet.

Yes it did, it had 5 sharelunkers in just a couple years but nothing since...

I was launching one afternoon there 3 years ago and saw a guy get out of his boat, hop in his truck and take off. A couple minutes later I see him coming back with a game warden following him. I'm thinking something had happened, as they seemed to be hurrying. They go out to the pier and they pull out a monster bass out of the livewell. He had called the warden to weigh her. She fell short of a sharelunker, but at 12lbs, was bigger than any bass I had ever seen. I launched and caught one around 8lbs right at sunset. I believe there are still some big fish in there, you just may not hear of it everytime someone catches a big one.

I think they should close it for 3 years and then let me in to inspect, uh, underwater vertebrate density via manually controlled analysis tool...

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!
