Sold my boat last year, looking to get a center console. Since I wanted a boat that could do the occasional bay trip, a motor that has seen saltwater didn’t scare me off. I like this boat, but noticed a lot of rust on bolts & brackets when I removed the cowling. Some of the rustier stuff was brackets that I couldn’t get a good picture of. Having only owned & used freshwater boats, I’m not sure if this is normal? This is a 2007 Honda 75 HP 4 stroke, with less than 200 hrs.

Naval jelly to get it off, Corrosion X to keep it off. Standard looking stuff.

I was told that good practice is to remove the cowling and spray the entire motor with Corrosion-X.

Ended up passing on that one for other reasons. But at least have a little better feel on what to expect. Thanks for the advice on the Corrosion X.

When you decide to use corrosion X under the cowling go easy on the spray, fine coating is all you need.
