It’s pretty tough, better than nothing though.

When it's al you can afford it's better than nothing. I know because I am one with a 7" screen and 73 years old. I can see what I need on it. My only problem it is at Lowrance for repair, remember my post good and bad service.

It is functional but not that fun. Attempting to use both GPS + SI on the same screen is a waste of time, IMO.

I've had two 7 inch units on my boat for 3 years (1 at the bow and 1 at the console) and although obviously I'd love to have a bigger screen, I think a 7" screen is sufficient.

I have a 7 inch on my kayak and when I spit the display into 3 or 4 sections I wish the side imaging and map were larger. Single display on the screen is plenty big. I swap from split to full screen or use the zoom more than I would with a larger display. Mine is immediately in front of my seat, essentially in my lap. In my case if I went with larger unit would need to move unit further away so would need to increase screen size to see as well as I do now.

Yes, got a buddy that did that this year and regretted it right away. It is coming off this Fall for a bigger one which he should have done from the beginning and would have been cheaper

No. If it's what you can afford, get it. Learn to read what you're looking at, and you'll be light years ahead of guys that have 12" displays but only use it for temp and depth. I will say, right now you can get a 9" or 12" head unit only, used.for. pretty outrageously cheap. With people upgrading to the Lowrance Live units, Garmin Live View and Solix units, they're covering up Facebook market and craigslist.

try setting your SI to look manually only about 20-30 feet, or less. works much better.

For my old eyes, a 7" screen is too small. On the bow I have a HDS9 Gen 3 for sonar and D/SI, and a HDS7 for charting using Navionics.

Take the question mark off the post title and you have your answer.
