I have a Michigan Wheel Vortex 14-1/2"x19 prop on my 2005 optimax 150 pushing my nirto 189 sport fish ski. I got a chip in the prop (it was getting close to needing to be changed anyway).

The boat also came with a Mercury Laser II 13.5x22p that I have never had on and the previous owner never had on.

Right now if I am by myself fishing the motor runs just shy of max rpm with the 19 p prop. I am fine with the performance. Top speed is more than adequate. 60% of the time I am pulling my kids on a tube or wake board.

2 questions:
1. Am I likely to tear something up going to the 22p?
2. Will I regret going to the 22p and just end up buying another 19p.

As a side note, if its a bad idea and anyone is in the market for the stainless 22p, let me know. If it wont work on my boat I have no use for it.

Try it, it might be better! Will possibly lose some on the holeshot but maybe not with the Laser being 1" smaller in diameter. It won't hurt to try.

I agree, only takes 10 minutes to change them and that includes finding the tools. I doubt it’ll work, but won’t know unless you try it.

thanks. I just dont want to tear up my motor. Props seem to require an degree in fluid dynamics.

The Laser would lower your RPMs quite a bit because of the change in pitch if it were the same diameter. Probably 450 or so but I am not sure how much the smaller diameter will offset the difference in pitch. Amount of cupping will also impact RPMs. I have a MW Apollo and it has very little cup. Like others said just put it on and try it. It might require a different thrust washer then what you have with the MW. If you were closer you could try one or both of the props I am looking to replace. You can try calling the technical folks at Power Tech and see what they recommend.

Why not just send the 19p off to Josh at Steve’s Custom props and have him repair it. You could talk to him and he may be able to tweak it to your specific boat and needs. It’ll be better than new when he gets done with it.

You may lose 600 RPM at wide open throttle with the 22P. Not going to hurt anything, but your performance won't be the same.

You should be at the top of the operating range at WOT with the boat loaded as you normally use it. The problem with being over mis-proped is dogging the motor at low RPMs.
