I live in an apartment, probably won't be in a house for the next few years. I don't keep a lot of fish, but even if I wanted to, I don't have access to a water hose or anything that would make cleaning fish convenient.

I live near Ray Hubbard right now, but it looks like none of the ramps here have cleaning stations, and I really don't like the idea of cleaning fish in my kitchen.

Where do you all clean fish, when you don't have a house/water access?

Are the fish dirty when you catch them, so you clean them?

You could just clean at the lake with a cordless fillet knife. Use a piece of plywood you can hose off at the carwash.

Many moons ago when I lived in apartments I would clean them in the kitchen , then in the frying pan . Did not matter what time it was we always had ice box full of longnecks . Single Days were a blast .

An old ironing board and a cordless filet knife makes it easy to clean them at the lake.

I've cleaned them in the kitchen, in the bathroom, on the driveway, on a tailgate, on a rock, at a restaurant, in a hotel parking lot, on the boat...and a few other places I won't mention here. It is much easier if you can find electricity and use an electric knife. Unfortunately few parks or marinas have a cleaning station anymore. If you have plenty of big trash bags and some Clorox wipes you can keep things pretty clean. You don't have to have water for the rough fillet but it is always better. Just rinse the fillets when you get to water. Dispose of the carcasses properly.

I usually carry a couple gallons of water in the back of my P\U to wash up with, and rinse off fillets. 1 gallon milk jugs with screw on lids work great. You can also freeze them before going. And put in a cooler to keep drinks cold while fishing. Then as the ice melts, it is mighty refreshing during this heat.

I also keep a box of knives for cleaning deer, hogs, or fish with. Then rinse them off when I get home if I don't have enough water in the field. Skinny blades and butcher knives work great for lots of things.

A piece of plywood and your fillet knife. Clean em at the lake. There are also electric fillet knifes that have adapters that can feed into your car plug or connect to your battery of your car/truck. Rinse your fillets with lake water and then clean em up when you get home. If you do not want to clean them at the lake,use your kitchen.

I clean the small ones at home, but the ones that are 5lbs or more I'll do at the lake so I don't have to worry about all the mess.

Unless there’s a cleaning stations I don’t believe you can leave the carcasses behind. You have to take them with you. I have to clean mine at home then throw leftovers in a trash bag and I freeze them. Put them in my trash the morning of trash pickup day.

The ironing board is a genius idea, light weight and easy to set up

I have a stainless table and sink outdoors and still use the ironing board. Its height adjustable for comfort, I use a plastic cutting board to clean fish on, then just hose everything off and run the cutting board and blades through the dishwasher. As others mentioned, I freeze the remains until trash pick-up day or drive over to the local cleaning station and dump the remains in the lake.
