I did, I ordered an Abu Garcia rod and it came broken. Sent it back and the replacement came broken. Sent it back and drove to BPS.

I’ve ordered a couple of St Croix rods on Amazon that were fine, If I remember correctly they came in a heavy cardboard tube with some bubble wrap inside.

I went ahead and gave it a try anyway. Amazon returns are easy if needed. Will find out tomorrow.

I didn't buy 7 footers, but the ones I did buy came in heavy cardboard tube as well, no issues.

I bought a 7'4 off of amazon a couple years ago with amazon rewards points. They basically made a small 8' long tent out of a bunch of pieces of cardboard and taped it all together. It looked terrible, but it did the job, the rod showed up in perfect condition.

My history with Amazon (real good one).
Couple years ago bought 4 12' 2 pc rods ($120 each).
All came in a great sturdy cardboard tubes.
One though came with factory defect.
And instead of sending it back for replacement, seller just sent me another (good) one.
I managed to fix this broken one (not to "perfect" but working condition), and now use it for free, courtesy of Amazon! smile

A variety of sellers offer their stuff on Amazon, and many times these 3rd party sellers package their materials in different ways. I've only received damaged goods once from an Amazon seller, a kit for a CD/DVD cabinet, and the seller made good with a replacement part. Can't recall getting any rods through Amazon, but I have purchased several reels from Amazon sellers with no problems at all.

I've been getting my latest rods from TW and American Legacy, all come in hard, heavy tubes with lots of bubble wrap. I now have a garage full of tubes.

I have had good luck so far. I did receive a box with two broken 7’ rods. Looked like it was run over, both ends of the triangle shaped box we’re fine. The middle was crushed. I called, sent a pic of the rods. They sent two more that arrived in fine shape.
