We had some kids from Athens HS get harassed by a dock owner on Lake Palestine a couple of years ago in a high school tournament. They videoed the whole incident and from that video they and their boat captain were being very polite. The dock owner not so much The dock owner eventually threatened them. They passed the video on to me and I showed it to my Game Warden neighbor, Chris Swift. Chris paid a visit to the guy. Not sure what was said or if a warning or citation was issued, but my tournament partner and I have fished that same dock a few times with no incident (although we have seen that guy staring at us from his back porch).

It sounds like a quick call to LCRA will get those bouys removed. I promise they were not approved And place with appropriate permission.
Please do.

I get that, I live right on Ray Roberts, it is my back yard. I am an avid lifetime fisherman and since last fall fortunate enough to be a lakeside property owner. I get both viewpoints completely. I think it is humorous actually that a bunch of grown people feel like their civil rights are being violated in the worst way because some property owners don't want you fishing their dock. I also understand the property owners view point of "we worked very hard to be able to afford a lake house with a dock and we really don't want hooks in our dock or broken off under water where we or our family could get injured". I also get the slippery "well if they can block off a swim area so can I" slope where we fisherman start to lose prime places to fish all over the lakes. I get it, but to me it is really not worth fighting over. Plenty of good water and plenty of good fisherman friendly docks to fish. Good Grief this is how we get silly laws like can't fish within X number of feet from a boat dock if we are not careful. Who has more money for lawyers, people who own million dollar lake homes or fisherman?? The ones with the most money usually win where the law is concerned. Answer to all of this is human decency on both sides, be nice it is easy. BTW if you want to fish behind my house go for it! I was on the fishing side of this at first. After reading this post I am a little more on the fence about it. I think he is right that if these lakeside owners get together and make a stand the outcome could go very wrong for the angler. The posts that instigate others to go antagonize the people are just insane and in all honesty counter productive. Just because the law is on your side now doesn’t mean it can’t change. Remember that lakes are not built for the purpose of fishing. That is a regulated luxury the state allows you so changing a law about making dock fishing illegal is not out of the question. I was watching an episode of “Know Fishing” and the angler was going to pitch a lure underneath a pontoon boat and he absolutely nailed one of the pontoons and then yelled “wake up”. No remorse about it. Imagine having to deal with that daily by multiple anglers. So I can sympathize with them along with the angler because I like fishing docks. At this point they should remove the ropes because it is illegal but eventually something will be done to protect them and threads with posts encouraging anglers to aggravate these people is just fuel for there fire. This is a public forum. They are not made for swimming, either. They are made for water supply and flood control.

one thing that hasn't been mentioned is that unless they are private, lakes are built with taxpayers money and therefore fishermen contribute far more to the cost of the lake than a few lakeside home owners...

I live on a Lake and I have 2 boat slips . My dock also has a 16 x 16 area attached to the dock with the 2 slips . We have a Pontoon boat and a Bass boat in the slip . I know fisherman have the water , I respect that but some of them need to learn how to flip and cast . I have found lines , baits , hooks , weights in both of my boats . Line hanging from the dock , boat and chairs . Carry on .........

Unfortunately haven't had any left on ours in almost 20 years.

Don't know if this is the place for this story but I wanna tell it and this seems as good a thread as any...
I was fishing a working mans on Lake Houston about 10 years ago. Had a pretty good dock near deep water loaded with brush, fish feeders, brush up and down both sides, just a great dock to fish. I fished it for about 30 minutes caught 10-12 short fish. As I was leaving, Mid-50s guy in business casual comes walking out of the house and says 'These are my fish, I feed these fish every evening, etc etc.' I said Thanks, good to know, I've been catching them pretty good for the last 30 minutes. He says 'Well how do you feel about yourself?' I said, 'I'd feel a lot better if one of them had been about 4lbs.' I kept on fishing down to the next dock and he shook his head and walked inside.

Lol. Was he trying to chase you away or just make you feel bad for hurting his babies?

I don't fish docks often but do understand both points of view. As an angler I've seen countless docks where the owners leave ropes hanging in the water which I assume is to discourage anglers. Snag a 3/4" nylon rope half way back in a dock and good luck getting that lure back. Rope and carpet on a submerged boat lift is a beating. As a property owner I can see where the dock owner would want to discourage boat dings and other damage by anglers. The rule of law has to maintain the standard both have to abide. If it's attached to a dock then it is the property owner's rules. If it is not attached to the dock then it is a part of the water and fish away. I've had people chase me off areas and left rather than confront over a fish I may or may not catch. If I see folks around my known good spots I will come back when they are gone. Homeowners who come out of the house I generally play the "What? I can't hear you" and move on. Just not worth the trouble. Stupid fish are the cause of all this anguish.
