First I am not a boat expert so please do your own research but here is starting point. Bass Boat is what I would call shallow V. Medium V and Deep V are next style of V hull most common in Bay Boat/Center consoles (some bays are even shallow V like bass boat and tunnel hulls etc….. ) Medium V in 20 to 27 feet range based on gas consumption is good option seas in 1 to 3 foot range. Deep V 24 to 30+ foot range based on gas consumption is good option seas 1 to 5 foot range, maybe more but not my cup of tea. Note I have seen a guy take a 24 foot shallow V bay boat (aluminum) 60 miles out on flat sea. I would not do this but I have gone about 10 to 12 miles in my 20 foot shallow V bay (aluminum). I have friend in Florida takes 20 foot medium V 15 to 30 miles out in Atlantic sea less than 2 feet. Find a charter and go with a captain, rinse and repeat with few others see what they are using how they use it what they are comfortable with. Talk with them ask them questions. Then start to make decision.

The great Texas boat debate. Round 1,164. Lot of opinions. LOT. All based on some variation of what you know. I could care less what brand boat/motor you purchase, but I will throw in the first few things to consider, then armed with a bit of knowledge, you can venture forth to a good decision. 1. THE most important question, Where are you going to fish the most? If you're fishing Galveston and east, then shallow water ability is pretty much a non-event. Get whatever you like. However if Port O Connor south is your target, then you'll be cutting off a lot of productive water if you can't run decent shallow.
If you're like most guys, thinking of big blue water dreams and running out to battle kings, ling and snapper, be forewarned there's way more crappy days than there are really good ones. 70% of the year, you'll hesitate getting past the jetties, and having bay ability will save your trip more than not.
How far out do you think you need to go? From Galveston it can easily be a 30 mile trek to find blue water, the further south you go, the closer the blue sea will be. At Mansfield, it's only 15 miles. Big difference.
And to not sound like some old wind bag, remember everything on a boat is a compromise. What makes a hull run smooth, also makes it run deep. How shallow is shallow? how rough is rough? How big is big?

I had my Triton 19trx off the north jetty in port a once.. but you have to know what the heck you are doing to not get swamped and I would not recommend it for anyone that has to ask.. no offense....it is not easy to get it around the jetty without getting a wave over the side. I only did it because I knew how to clean it to prevent as much corrosion as possible and was selling it so..needed a saltwater fix... lol
I bought a Triton 240 LTS.. awesome all around boat. Make sure it floats if capsized. If you plan to leave the bay.. heck, even if you stay, no sense buying a boat that will sink....asking for trouble.
Get some shade.. anything. a T-top.
