Myself and buddy Steve fished Lake Placid this past Friday. We launched out Kayaks from the I-10 bridge and worked the east side of the lake. We found some nice Bluegill 7 to 8 inch range under overhanging tree limbs in 6 to 10 feet of water. We were also able to get a few nice crappie 13 to 14 inch range fishing docks in 16 feet of water. The crappie were holding tight under the docks. We had to "dock shoot" the baits. I am not that good at dock shooting but Steve is a master at it. He caught 8 of the 10 crappie. We also were able to pick up a couple of small bass which rounded out the catch. We caught an estimated total of 40 fish. We fished from 7:30am till 11:30am. All fish were released to fight again or to find new homes further down river once Placid is drained by the end of September. Bluegill were caught on small spinner baits and small crank baits. Chartreuse/Black and Chartreuse/Orange got the best results. The crappie were all caught on sliders, Chartreuse/Black!. Going to be fishing both Placid and Mcqueenty a lot during September! Going to miss the river lakes a bunch. realmad

Side Note: Did manage to talk with several Placid homeowners who were all very upset about the lake being drained. splat

Nice report as always Laker! Glad you guys caught some fish! Yes Sir you,Vogey, and Chuck BAF are going to miss those river lakes a lot. You guys had those fish dialed in every month of the year on the big three river lakes. Hope you guys can make the adjustments which I am sure you will. Again good job guys on catching some nice fish.

Yes! I will be fishing the channels and will determine if they are worth fishing. I can tell you by first hand experience that when the Lake Wood Dam broke the upper river fishing between Lake Wood and Meadow Lake went down hill! The Crappie have totally disappeared and the big sunfish are hard to find. The bass are also hard to find. I have fished Lake Wood a lot before the dam break and it was a hidden gem. Lots of nice sunfish, crappie, and bass not to mention some nice Channel Cats. Me and my friends could limit out on crappie anytime during the year. If I had to give Lake Wood a fishing grade now it would be a C-. Before the dam break it was a solid At. I fished Dunlap twice since the dam break and did poor both times. soap

Side Note: There are a ton of carp at Lake Wood and on Lake Dunlap! nuts

I know you and your friends have spent a lot of time fishing the Lake Wood area over the years. Hopefully in time the fishing will improve. As I have said,I will fish the river channels next year and will determine how much I fish them as time goes on! thumb

You are spot on Chuck. I will be doing the same. Time will tell on the amount of fishing time I will be putting in on the lake river beds! noidea
