If all these Mepps spinners, Rapala’s....are so good how come they aren’t you dudes “go to baits”??? JK! Great that she wants to start fishing with you and I completely understand not wanting to go somewhere & expect her to be patient just starting out without getting hooked on “catching” first. I think it’s more about location than fishing style though. Don’t take her out to Fork and put on a big worm and expect her to catch the fishing bug dragging a big T-rig all day on a deep hole for the chance of a few bites. A month ago I’d tell you to take her to Hubbard Creek to catch a boat load of small bass just throwing a Squarebill all day. Not so much now. Go somewhere that she can throw a moving bait and catch numbers. Sand bass can often save the day also. Hope you find that special place. Also if fishing is slow scenery can save the day. My wife does not get a big kick out of fishing but she is always on board to go to Caddo and fish a little and ride around taking in the awesome scenery, cruising up the boat channels, River, tying up at Big Pines Lodge for a beer or dinner.....

Personally, I never did that well with the Mepps spinners, but that might be because I didn’t use them that much. But the Rapala baits, in my opinion, are terrific, and I use them a lot. I don’t know that I have a real go-to bait though. I do have a short list of baits that I’lll try first.
As for the wife, she likes to fish, but has long resisted bass fishing. Too slow she says. But, she had fun with the 3 she caught yesterday (all on rapalas), so we have made a bit of progress toward bass fishing. It’s a start. I’m happy with it.

Get her to try a Rouge too. The first time I tied one on for my wife she caught a 4# and two casts later a 5# right on the edge of a Lilly Patch and she’s now the rouge pro of the family my late grandpa would be proud. I keep her one rigged up in the boat at all times now. She still trying other baits and doing ok but when she gets frustrated out comes the rouge.

Best two pond baits I have ever used are H&H single spin (black/chart or blue/chart) and a 2-3" pre-rigged natural colored swim bait (storm lures ir creme at walmart)

You guys might be tired of hearing about this, but when I walked into the den early this morning, the wife was on the phone with our youngest daughter. She was bragging on how she had outfished me, 3 fish to zero. No mention about how I had picked the bait most likely to catch fish, tied it on her line and suggested where the fish were likely to be. But that’s Ok, and even better than Ok. She caught some bass and was excited about it. That’s progress. And she has a rod and reel that she likes and can throw with accuracy. Life is good.

Try a bunch of types of baits as they change from hour to hour sometimes one that worked in morning will give 0 bites after lunch.

Set her up with a drop shot finesse worm and a Tx. rig baby brush hog. She will catch unless the place you take her doesn't have any bass in it.

Good stuff man!! My wife has been coming around to the bass fishing game(just fished for catfish before) and I am trying to get her on some fish as well! We've even gone shopping to get her some combos of her "own"!
So far when out we start with some small squarebills(1.0s or 1.5s) or H&Hs and then as she starts to tire we go to the shaky head or wacky rig with either trick worms or senkos.

Rogue? Smithwick Rogue? I have a few of those. Sorry spell check was off that day. You got the idea though. Glad she enjoys fishing, I was so happy getting mine into it too.
