I can remember fishing with just a 14' aluminum boat and a 9.9 evinrude with 2 eagle claw rods and 5000c's and a small selection of creme worms.
must be gettin old. Yeah... and your posting about fishing and we are talkin about golf. It's too hot for Golf, I'd rather be Fishin.... with a 5000D reel, Garcia Conolon Rod and some Mann's Jelly Worms while sitting in an Inner Tube.
Slide right, coming in .... Fish On!

Played Carthage Country Club today. One bad hole on the front nine when I knocked driver way right and into the water. Took penalty and put approach shot on green and three putted for double bogey 6. Played the back nine even par, no bogeys through 17 with the par five 18 to play. Cut off more than I could chew on the dog leg right and heard ball rattling around coming down in the trees. I got a shot.. 185 yards straight into wind over the water. Have to keep it under the trees so I pound a three iron. Hits short and stops 20 yards short of green. Up and down and I shoot the my best round of year.. an even par 72. Hit [censored] wedge 20 feet short and then three put for bogey. Shoot 37 front 37 back 74. I’m giving golf about three more weeks to shoot par or under then it’s back to fishing.

Ok let me give you some golf tips. Unless you are a Pro playing for money then you don't need a rangefinder or any super turbo tees. I will give you that you need comfortable shoes. Get on the tee box , stick your wooden tee in the ground and hit the ball. Go find your ball(if possible) look at the pin and pick you out a club that you think you can get to the green with. I mean you only have 14 clubs and 1 of those is a putter so its out. That leaves 13 and I doubt you will hit your driver off the deck, so we are down to 12. See its not that hard. The 3 guys that I normally play with all shoot in the 80's as do I. I can't remember the last time that it took us more than 3 hours to 3 1/2 hours to play 18 holes of golf.

Range finders speed the game up immensely. This is an absurd take. Amateurs, more than pros by a long shot, benefit from rangefinders. You don’t need to find a sprinkler head or walk off distance from the 150 marker. And I’ve never played a 3.5 hour round of golf, and it isn’t because of my group. It’s other groups slowing everyone else down. Are you playing a private club? Public club in DFW takes a minimum of four hours. Minimum.

And plastic tees are longer lasting than wooden tees. You can get 50 for three bucks.
The special tees he bought? Probably nothing to it, but plastic tees are great. I buy one box of them a year. Scratch that. I bought a box this year for the first time in two years.

We tried a range finder and spent more time range finding that playing golf. We never play East of Aledo and mostly around Graham. We also try to go when not a lot of people are playing. We have all played 30 years minimum so we usually know by looking what we are going to hit. We laugh, talk and make fun of each other but when you get to your ball grab your club and hit it. Don't get up there and spend 5 minutes over the ball especially on the green.

Do either of you guys play the ball down from tee to green or do you make a tee with your heel and hit driver from the fairway?

When you buy a rangefinder, try it out in your backyard first. They’re really simple though: point it at your target, hit the button. Some stink, like mine, and took some getting used to, but I tried it in my yard and got better. In no way has it slowed my game down. It’s made my game speed up.

We always play the ball down and yes I have hit driver from the fairway. Go to Breckenridge and play. # 3 is 612 yards straight South. I have hit driver, driver, 5 wood, wedge to the green many times when the wind is blowing 15 or 20 mph out of the South. By the way the range finder we tried was a Leupold

Would you happen to know him, or if he still plays there? Paul?

The course actually has the best putting greens I've played on all year.
