What is the biggest blue cat in Lewisville?

How about the Vine and Twok.

I am saying Lewisville has a 70lb fish. The Vine's best is 65 and Twok is 103.

This is based on my scientific research. Such as reading posts here for years among other methods.

Hum, I read lots of posts here too but consider them more Darwinian than scientific. Lol!
I heard Lewisville has a hundred pounder around the dam. Divers saw him. fish

Yeah I dont know about the Lew having 100# by the damn but I could see maybe a 70.

I wonder why they get so much bigger in Twok than other lakes in the area?

The Lew is FULL of big arse gizzard shad and sandbass and crappie for them to eat. I have heard they like crappie really well. Not that you could fish with a crappie. But I have heard they eat them often.

Lewisville has gone way down on quality size fish. It used to be full of 20-30lb fish not that long ago. 40lbrs were not uncommon and 50lbrs were caught a lot more frequently. I know there are still some giants lurking in the old lake. 2 or 3 times per year I will mark a true monster that would definitely push the record. As far as what causes a lake to be better than the next? Lots of factors go into making a great Bluecat fishery. Right depths, structure, streams, timber are all factors. A major factor is if there is a good amount of agricultural runoff going into the lake. Farmers fertilize their crops and the fertilizer get washed into the lake. Phytoplankton feed on the fertilizer, bait feeds on the phytoplankton, and blues eat the bait. Now all the agricultural fields that used to be surrounding Lewisville are replaced with subdivisions and HOAs. The runoff now has tons of other toxic [censored] in it like oil and anti-freeze and other stuff even worse. You can’t hardly find a frog or a crawfish in the little tributaries as they are the first animals to be affected by these toxins. It will only get worse unfortunately. texas

Good thoughts Gato.

Hopefully the size will rebound.

El Gato Azul you have it right, I know of a lake up north that had no Blues in it until the state let some Cat fisherman transplant some from the Mississippi,They put fish in from 10 to 30lbs. Within 6 years they had a 50 lber caught and now hold Cat tournaments on the lake. It is surrounded by farm land and has monster gizzards in it.

I have found divers are often not very reliable concerning fish length and weight. I recently had a diver tell me there were 4' long walleye in Wheeler Branch. Since the world record is just over 30 inches a 4' fish in not very likely. I prefer to quote actual waterbody records from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department record page. However, if you want to know how big the blues are in a lake, start fishing with 5 pound carp or buffalo as bait (lol).

Farmers use as much pesticides and round up too. Pesticides whipped out the crawfish etc. in bar ditches before the houses got built.

Pesticides and glyphosate (roundup) definitely aren’t good for the environment. I’ve been in the green industry for the last 20 yrs and have had an applicators license for most of that time. We use a lot of the same chemicals as farmers do. Most pesticides we use actually break down fairly quickly in the environment. I’m not saying all those chemicals don’t have a negative impact on the environment but there isn’t a lot of residual left by the time it reaches the lakes. We’ve managed 1000s of commercial and residential properties in that time, many of which were built on top agricultural fields. Most of the tributaries in and around these HOAs were full of crawfish and frogs 5 yrs ago when they were first built on top of the ag fields. Now 5 yrs later you can barely find a frog or crawfish in any of those tributaries. I understand that ag fields are dowsed with chemicals just like residential lawns. Unlike farm land, city streets get a constant drip of motor oil, hydraulic fluid, and anti-freeze on a daily basis which makes its way into the streams and doesn’t break down very easily in the environment. texas

I'm gonna with El Gato Azul and a few others to a point. True Ag and Lawn care stuff breaks down and Ag has been using it for years with some impact but not to dramatic of one. What happens when the burbs move into an area is an increase in concrete and asphalt and a general removal of riparian areas. So with concrete and asphalt you increase the amount of runoff as water is not absorbed you also speed it up increasing how much get washed into an area. Removing the riparian areas around tributaries and ditches also increases the volume but also takes another level of filter that also slows the runoff.

i bet there’s a high 90’s or triple digit flathead in most all of our area lakes simply because of their feeding habits, lower population density, ability to eat basically any fish in the lake they please, and lack of angling pressure along with difficulty to catch them.

Agreed. Very few folks target them. They typically feed only at night and live in tough [censored] places to get to. Add into that they love a 5lb carp...i mean who fishes with a 5lb carp?

If you think you’re using a big bait you can always go bigger. A 5 lb flathead can easily engulf a foot long bait.

I always had the theory that the larger the body of water--be it lake or river--the larger the catfish living there will be. This is on the average, as I'm sure there are exceptions.
