UPDATE and unfortunately not a good one at this point.

Yesterday had both a great high and a great low. I am hoping to get it back to a high point.

The high came yesterday morning when I got a call from a friend at TPWD. He said he had read this post and had done his own research and was very bummed at the decision that had been made. He offered to help me get in touch with his contact at Luminant since I (we) had a desire to take over the lease cost and management of the park. He also mentioned some ways TPWD could help with some costs associated via a bid grant system. So I had a great feeling about it after that phone call.

That great feeling didn't last more than a couple of hours when I received this from my previous Luminant contact:

"Thanks for the call and the emails expressing your interest in the park.

However, with the county and now a private vendor both unsuccessful in operating the park we’ve decided to close the park permanently as we position the plant site for a potential sale."

I haven't gotten where I have in life by taking a simple no like that for an answer, so I am not done trying to pull this off. I have requested at a minimum a phone call and/or an in person meeting in their office to discuss the business plan I have put together.

I will provide an update once I have one.

Chris, I'm sure you already know this but Luminant is selling all the land associated with the shuttered coal facilities. It's a bunch of acreage and is going to take some very deep pockets. Properties are currently in a bid process.

May i ask a question? who in the world would want to buy a shuttered PP? Just the demo would be a massive expense and a PIA. AND, is there any chance that the GOAT gets Obie's wussy EPA stuff overturned and gets them back on-line? We are having blackouts now...... thanks Obie.

No, no, it's not because a 1.9 gigawatt plant that could have supplied power to close to a million homes closed that we had a blackout. It's because the lines "sagged" and came in contact with vegetation.

It's just an incredible coincidence that the line sagging and vegetation happened on a hot Sunday, when everyone was at home and trying to cool themselves and their families.

Obama's EPA regulations, issued after he promised to kill coal and raise everyone's electric bills as a candidate, have nothing to do with this.

I am by no means an expert on this topic but from what I was told last year, Luminant has to pay for the dismantle and remediation of the plant itself but in this case their target for a sale had been a manufacturer who could benefit from a direct rail line coming into a potential new production plant. I'm guessing at this point, they have been unable to find someone willing to pay what they want for the property. And don't get me started on Obama. He set our country back 20+ years in a ton of different ways.

Yes, Luminant will be dismantling and doing the remediation on all of these properties. Same will happen to Fairfield and a couple others. As for them ever coming back online as peakers? Not going to happen.

Chris, 1st I'd like to really thank you for taking the bull by the horns on this. I loved fishing Monty and although it's never going to be what it was, still hate to lose lakes.

Wow I am totally bummed. Monty has been off the chain in the winters since the plant shut down and everyone left. Had several 30-80 fish days last winter and the winter before. smallest was around 3 lbs. Yeah would do a $50 annual pass if ramp was deeper at new pool level. There’s a reason all the Fork guides were showing up.......catching was off the chain and fork has pretty much sucked the last two springs until the shad spawn. Any chance the open the dam to sandlin. Meaning create a cut by totally removing gates?
