Judging by past post it seems that Fayette and Decker have been "HOT" by means of the Bluegill/Sunfish bite! This week has been no exception. Myself, Fred-Rionator,and Mike-USMC-Gy fished Fayette this week and the bite was on FIRE! We caught over 150 fish. Bluegill,Redear, and Rios were all caught. We mainly caught Bluegill and Rios. Redear were nice and fat but few and far between. Most of the fish caught were fat, and in the 8 to 9 inch range. We had two Bluegill in the 10" range. The Rios were in the 4 to 10 inch range. We had one Rio that went in the 10" range. Most Rios were in the 9" range. The sunfish were caught by reed beds and stick ups in 5 to 10 feet of water. The Rios were all staged on a rock bed in 8 to 12 feet of water. Water temperature was between 89 and 94 degrees. All fish were caught on ultralight tackle using worms. All fish were released to fight again! We fished from 7:30am till 1:30pm. After a day on the water we had a "FANTASTIC" lunch at Weikel's Bakery and Deli in beautiful La Grange TX. Fishing with good friends. It just don't get any better! fish

Hey Banker...Some of those fish look familiar ! And some of those trees look familiar...but the reed beds all look the same. Good job guys...nice to see another good report from Fayette. I knew Fred would put you guys on some good fish. Did they still have all the buoys out all over the place ? What the heck is that all about ? noidea

Thanks Steve for the reply! I notice some past hook marks in a lot of those Bluegill! Between you and Fred I think most of those fish will be having some very sore mouths! hooked Fred is a hunting machine for sure! partyon The buoys are still out there and there was a barge fixing to leave the boat docks at Oak Thicket with a work crew on board. I do not know what they were doing and I do not know the reason for all of the buoys out there. Some sort of data collection I guess. noidea Any way Fayette is simply "On Fire" and like you have said all along August and September are the best months to fish it. thumb

Great job thumb Where are the pictures of the Rios?

I fished Fayette this morning. I asked the guys with the pontoon boat and buoys what they were doing. They said they are mapping the earth under the lake. He didn't know the client but suspected it was for an oil company.

Caught around 50 Rios. The majority of them were in the 9" range with one just over 10". When you have seen one you have just about seen them all. We did take three pictures of a Rio that will be sent in to TPW for a pending weight record of .85 Lbs. thumb

Side Note: Moonshadow or anybody else. If there is oil on Fayette will it be drilled out? If so could the lake be closed? I know the lake is a power plant lake owned by the power company and is used for cooling purposes only! How will all of this effect fishing on the Fayette is there is oil there? noidea

They will drill horizontal from a location away from the lake. The lake will never know it, activity will be about 8500 feet below the lake.

Side Note: You going to hit Fayette again this year?

The search is on Leo! I do not fish Fayette much. I would say that they are laying in deeper water on a creek bed or somewhere over by the out take in deeper water! hmmm It amazes me that week after week all spring/summer long and into early fall that super sunfish slabs by the 50's to 100's are being caught and then all of a sudden nothing. nuts They have to be somewhere! hide2

gar...That's the million dollar question...Where do they go in the winter? Last winter I spent a fair amount of time searching & can tell you a lot of spots they are not at. This is my process of eliminating unproductive water. It is the same process I used a few years back to locate the summer spots when I first started fishing for these guys.I recently purchased an updated lake Fayette fishing map, and plan on continuing the process. This coming week myself, doctorxring, and rionator will be giving it another try using the latest & greatest electronics. Last week I tried one specific tree field in deeper water, and one of the creek channels winding through a tree field. Nothing-eliminated ...moving on. The search continues...
