I've lived at Cedar Creek Lake for 20 years and have never fished north of the Gun Barrel - Seven Points Bridge. Well, I've been thinking of going up there to see if I could find fish and I went today from 8:20 AM to 2:50 PM. Spent 20 minutes in my boat getting there and 35 minutes getting back home, so I had about 5 and a half hours of fishing. I ended up catching 100 whites, 2 cats and a nice yellow bass. I caught white bass in 9 spots and could have stayed and continued to catch at each one. Mst of the fish were in 10 to 12 fow. In one spot (Cross Roads Hump on map #2 below) they were in 6 to 8 fow. I started at the point just north of the bridge (Bridge Point), then went NW to Hump A and then 3 spots along Roadbed 1. My aim is to catch 10 or so and then move on to check more places. Next I went east to Roadbed 2 , 3 and 4. It was a fish every cast at all three. Then I went on north to Southernmost Submerged Building and ended at Cross Roads Hump where I saw the largest concentration of fish - and in 6 to 8 fow. At most spots I could catch a fish every cast with either a #2 or #4 Mepps jerk-starting them and reeling to the side horizontally.

Never caught a hybrid, but white bass fishing was better than down south. In the last 3 spots most of the fish were 13 to 14 inches. Most of the others today were 11 to 12 inches.

Here are 2 maps I created to show where I caught them.

That sounds like a really awesome outing, and successful too! I bet you'll sleep well tonight!

Thanks Dennis! It is amazing how many of us on the lake have never fished north of the bridge. It sounds like we are missing a lot..

Dennis,
So in your expert opinion, why the sudden change for the fish to go shallow again? Lately it's been 19'-24'? The guessing game continues!

Most of us fall into the same patterns because it has worked before, you just proved that thinking out of the box can often bring great rewards.
Many times Rob and I have checked all of the way points only to be disappointed.
Fish do whatever they want to do, and the more I fish the more I understand that they don't think like I do.

CissyShack: I don't think it is a change. For one thing, the water up north is not as clear as the water on the deep/south end of the lake. So the fish don't have to go as deep to get protection from the sun. Also, there is no 19 to 20 fow in much of that part of the lake. The deepest is 14 fow on the map with the submerged buildings. Obviously the shad are there so the fish are. They likely don't know there is a south end of the lake with deep, cooler water.

Dennis---I think I speak for many of us, we really appreciate the reports and the maps. I was wondering if you have GPS coordinates for the locations you have marked on your maps?

Oh great more cool names for us to remember! Lol.
DC, you think there are more "flow" and more oxygenated waters up north to attract the fish? Also 35 mins boat ride is nutthing compares to ocean fishing wink

PS: Did you proud and caught good hibbies on twok yesterday on mepps #4, gold blade. 12 fow.

Welcome to the other end of the lake Dennis !! Thanks for the report. Guess I can expect more boat traffic on this end now. LOL.

I have never been one to use GPS coordinates. A quick glance at a topo map is all I use to understand where the spot is.

Todd: Larry told me about your success. I am still looking forward to fishing with you in your new boat. No, there is not much flow up there now. I fished many years in the middle, shallower, less clear part of Lake Livingston, and we caught fish all year in 10 to 15 fow on the 190 roadbed and bridges because much of the time it just wasn't clear enough to catch them in deeper water. Whereas, down south on the deep, clearer end they catch fish in 25 to 35 fow. So, I am not surprised that there were good numbers of whites in the northern part of Cedar Creek Lake. The 10 fow roadbeds and the submerged buildings (like submerged bridges) are great structures for white bass. The hard surfaces grow algae which attract bait which attract fish.
