I didn't say you were struggling, boss. I know you're whacking em.

There are guides who say they aren't currently catching a lot of fish on Fork. Some of those guides are doing better on Monticello, so they're taking customers there instead. They're doing what they gotta do. I simply stated that those guides will now have to find a different lake (Holbrook being closest).

👍🏻..... yes sir I agree. Monti has been real good for about 2 months now. Fun fishing up shallow in the morning then go drag out deep on Fork. Gives the customers a different style of fishing and makes for a fun day. We caught some really good fish over there. Hope they can make it right .... I think there was about 8 boats there Saturday when I loaded up

Well considering the only ramp to the lake has been shut down for good at this point, a solution that requires funds to keep it open and maintained is the only thing that makes sense.

The idea here isn't to make money as I doubt there's any way to make enough with this to matter. The idea is simply to have enough funds to cover labor, upkeep, new loading dock, etc, etc so that we can still access the lake.

We can add you to the list of 1, that doesn't want to pay for a pass.

Wrong. I'm not saying I don't want to pay for anything. My question isn't aimed at anyone on this board, it is aimed at local authorities. I am asking why the county or some other jurisdiction can't maintain a public boat ramp on Monticello.

Who paid to build the ramps at Welsh and Brandy Branch, and who maintains them? I don't know. Maybe it's SWEPCO or whoever operates the plants.

I don't know the answer to that question. I do know that Monticello while open to the public and managed by TPWD from a regulation standpoint, is actually a private lake and land. That's part of the problem here. Luminant is the group that decided to lock the gates. That's what we are trying to remedy but it's going to take some money to do so unless they turn over the park to TPWD.

The problem may be one of liability. They could turn the park over to the state but as long as they own the actual lake they would be liable for anything that happened on it. Maybe they just need to give the whole thing to the county. Just my 2c.

I’d pay $250 a year if it was closer to me. $50 shouldn’t be tough to sell.

Too bad a developer doesn’t just buy it and sell lake lots.

If developer gets it you'll have a lot more than 8 boats. One of the things I like about Monty is it's generally not that crowded except certain times of the year up at the north end. Rest of the time it's an easy fish.

Too expensive to deal with the Superfund status. It is my understanding, that's why plans to dismantle and sell appear to have come to a halt.

if all the land around the lake is owned by luminant it will go the way of most privately owned property if its not making any money an there is trash left by folks coming an going they will probly shut it down they could care less about folks fishing.

Haven't been back since they lowered the lake but if they keep the ramp closed I just may be back in my Kayak thumb
