Have you fished Flamingo in December? Are tarpon still there then? I have the week of Christmas off and will be staying in the Boynton or Lake worth area. After reading, and rereading your post about Flamingo I'd like to try and fish it for at least a day. We are hauling our own kayaks down this time and would like to explore some new areas. We usually fish around Jupiter for snook, Delray Beach for offshore and freshwater peacock fishing. For some reason redfish and trout are scarce in this area and it would be great for a chance at these species as well. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Just go if you can. I've fished Flamingo year round for many years. December isn't my favorite month but there are tarpon, snook, trout, and redfish there all year long.
If you can spend two days even better as that is a long slow drive through the park (38 miles) . Let me know when you you plan on being there and I'll send you some maps on where to try ... with not so long paddle there.

Your mentioning of Boynton Beach brought back good memories. I started out snook fishing Anglin Pier when I first arrived in Florida and moved to Lauderdale by the Sea, three blocks from the Pier. Met a small group of guys that fished Anglin or Dania beach piers almost every night and then at slack tide they would leave the pier and hit Hillisboro Inlet then Boynton Beach Inlet. I watched these guys that were truly the best of the best at catching monster snook from bridges in that area They were using 80 lb straight mono on heavy rods with 5/0 Penn Senator reels. The bait of choice was 12 inch live mullet or a big mojjarra. Watched my buddy Bahamma Joe almost get pulled off the bridge by big snook as he would always have his drag down as far as it would go. He had the butt of rod under his armpit and the leverage that fish had on him when it slammed his rod against guard rail lifted him on to his tippy toes. With his weight of over 250 lbs there was no way I wanted any part of that kind of fishing. Back then there wasn't any slot size on snook and 25lb snook were nothing special. These guys were meat hunters. I wasn't taking pictures back then but wished I had.

Years later when I started fishing from a kayak, Jupiter Beach and Munyon were where I headed as I wanted to tangle with some of those same sized fish. First time at Munyon I caught one of my first seatrout. Had no idea that all trout wouldn't be this size.

That's a nice trout! I started fishing Florida and kayaking a couple of years ago. Florida has been very good to me as far as fishing goes. I have learned a lot fishing with the guys at deep blue kayak fishing. This will be my first time there with my own kayaks and time to explore a little. It looks like about a 2 1/2 hour drive from where we are staying so I'm definitely going to try it as long as the weather is decent. Last Christmas the wind blew pretty hard all week so we had to pretty much stick to the canals. Here are a few pics of me and the boss.
